Also initially there will be only a 1,000 but Mitsu said they would produce another 200 if there was demand. And guess what there is demand .....
But I do have to say this, this is by far the most open ended discussion with no flaming I have seen on this forum in a long time. Kudos to all of you who posted objectively, instead of posting like raving fanboys, it makes me proud to be a member of this forum

to be honest, i kinda like the sti better. the exterior is subtle and somewhat more defined than the evo which is just aggressive (thats just my opinion) and the interior is far better than the evo. but, the handling of the evo.... ah! thats a car. thanx for all the info. i really like this thread and site. everybody has something relevant and important to say. this site and the cats who posted replies on this thread are the s**t! thanx.
i still cant decide.... for all the evo owners.... is the clutch really that bad on the evo VIII.
i have driven both cars but still cant decide.
how can i make the steering ratio of that of the sti the same as the evo's and reduce understeer?
i dont think the active yaw sensor comes with the 2005 sti differentials? i checked everywhere and still havent found any info on it. i know that the yaw sensor on the sti are different with that of the evo's AYC. i wish evo's had the AYC.
as of now im probably leaning towards an evo VIII or evo MR... the handling is just awesome.
but, damn.... an sti with a v-limited lip and a carbon wing... thats bad!! TYPE RA!
handlings more important than looks so im leaning towards the evo, plus the evo's exterior just looks mean aggressive! steering and handling......!

Before I bought my STI (summer of 2003) I looked at the Evo. At that time I could only look as I was not allowed to even sit in one. The seats are better, and the handling was super easy to get acclimated to. I know people that thrash their Evos all the time and never have a problem, but(and there's always a big but) at the same time I meet people whose cars aren't doing so well. Personally I wish Mitsu is successful with all Evo models, because I like having choices. The Impreza is a newer design so has marked advantage in assembly quality and design. At the time I got the STI it offered more equipment(front lsd, 6-speed, dccd), for what was essentially the same price. Why not buy the STI and spend the difference on a real racing school program. That will make your car alot faster and you will have a good time. Just a thought. In the end buy what makes you happiest when you're walking towards it in a parking lot knowing you have the keys. Test drive both.

I don't know if this will help
When I was in Japan, my car club use to hit the drift scene at industrial areas around the Yokohama and Yokosuka City. Saturday evening around 11 pm is when drifters from around the area come out and play. You're basically drooling over a sea of Nissan, Toyota, Mitsu, Subies, and Mazda's powerhouse cars modified for drifting; every gathering averages 200 cars and they drift til the local police breaks up the party.
Anyway, when I drove my father's R-32 GT-R and threw it around the corners, the car was too heavy and did not want to slide. When I tried to upset the rear by shifting the weight while braking, car spun up on me and almost hit a light pole.
Following week, my friend from brought out his 22B. Car did pretty good and I almost got it til my foot slip while treading the boost coming into the apex of a corner and the car just understeered big time that I have to hit the brakes. But it was decent car to slide after 4 to 5 tries.
(Present time) Previous summer I returned to Japan to visit my friends back at the car club. Club manager just got his hands on a new EVO VII GSR and also two of the members we're sporting STI's and they'll let me drive it for the coming weekend (lucky). After I drove both cars. Let me tell you one thing, I have no problem throwing that LAN-EVO into the corners. It is basically doing what ever I want it to do (assuming if you know what you're doing). AWD or not, I felt a fun factor that I didn't have with the STI. That got me excited in my opinion, but the thing that bothered me when I drove 03' STI (JSpec) is the "don't push me to hard or you'll pay for it" kinda feeling. Oh well, there only my opinions and nothing more.
So to me, both cars are great with the new EVO MR and the completely different STI from what I drove before. It all comes down to personal preference. Both cars have the same problems with their clutch. So either way it will probably come down to price. Stop being lazy and test drive one out, you'll know which car it will be. I hope this helps, good luck and have fun.
imporacer (sorry, for being too long)
