2.2 oil pump removel help....
95 legacy 2.2L here. I'm in the process of changing the timing belt and I have all the belts off, pullies removed, cam shaft seals have been pulled and replaced. I pulled the water pump and have a new one all set up with a new thermostat.
Anyway, I'm trying to replace the crank shaft seal and replace the orings on the oil pump but I can't get the thing to come off. It seems that the pulley that is infront of the oil pump isn't coming off.. Does it come off first before you can pull the oil pump off? the pump has some play but I can't get it to move more than a few milimeters. help me out here people.. what did I miss.

thanks a million, tim

I own a 96 Legacy sedan 2.2l
- Finished a job today where I replaced the oil pump seal, so the pictures shown above look pretty familar. In all honesty I just used a flathead driver to pry it free. This is probably not the safest idea seeing as how you wouldn't want to damage the crankshaft at all. But the pulley isn't screwed on or secured by anything, should come off with some slight "physical persuasion".

Yeah, that pulley should slide out. Given that the car is pretty old, it will be hard. You can use a pulley puller. I have seen people use steering wheel pullers too. But basically just WD40 the hell out of it, clean it and try to slide it out. Thats all there is to it.
just an update. I broke my breaker bar trying to get this off.. It was seazed on and no amount of wd could loosen it up. I ended up cutting it off with my drummel. Was able to cut a channel out of the center and then slide it off. the gear is only 30 bucks new at the dealer so it wasn't a big deal. Suby is all back together again.
