stub axel removel

can the stub axels be removed and replaced with out opening the transmission

i need to replace my cv shaft and all efforts to remove the pin that connect the stub and the cvshaft have failed me (tried punchs, and many broke drill bits, and one 15 doller carbide tip bit) and i despritley need me car

The hole in the axle is tapered...the pin only comes out one way and goes in one way.

the best way to know the direction to punch out the DOJ pin is to look at both holes were you see the lock pin.

You will see one side with a chamfered hole, & one side that is flush.
Use a 5/16 non tapered pin punch at the chamfered hole side of the CV.
