Yakima Top-Mount trouble w/Wagon
Hi all,
I recently purchased a Yakima top-mount system for my Wagon
using the factory rails and low-rider towers. A set of Steelhead
mounts rest on a pair of round crossbars.
The problem is that with the front fork block facing forward as I
believe the design intended the rear of the mounts contact the rear wing when the hatch is fully opened.
So, the steelheads were installed backwards so the bikes face
to the rear which avoids the interference but it seems that this would cause more noise not to mention it just looks stoopid.
I was wondering if anybody else ran into this problem. I could
possibly cut the mounts to length by chopping an inch or so to
make it fit but that will probably void my warranty. I wonder if there is a way to adjust how far the hatch opens? If I can just tweak that then maybe that will do the trick. I have not taken
a look at that yet.
Any thoughts, recommendations, rants are welcome... I wrote
to Yakima asking them if I could send them in to have them do
the surgery so my warranty would not be voided and I'm wait-
ing for a response. We will see what happens.
It's frustrating that they show this setup as the fit for my WRX Wagon and it doesn't really fit!
