I know how stupid this sounds but I can't get my trunk to open now !? The cables aren't snapped because I took the back taillight out and could feel the cable moving inside when you pull the lever .. Has anybody had any issues like this and fixed them ? I don't think it fully laches but it won't do anything !? Please help ! 2002 impreza wrx

 

uhm is your trunk cancel switch on? that wont allow you to open from the inside or with a valet key.

 

I'm new to subarus so where is that switch located ? Haha

 

Its on the latch assembly thats on the trunk.. you might have to go through your back seat to get to it if your trunk is still stuck

 

My subs in the back ... Is it on the top or bottom latch ? I have my passenger taillight out cause it was busted so would I be able to grab it with a hanger ?

 

do you have the master key by any chance?

also here is a picture. ignore the blue arrow but right under it is a latch that can either be pushed upwards which means it will be canceled so that valet keys and inside trunk lever doesnt work or it will be in the position you see in the picture which means its in proper position.

 

When I put the key in it doesn't want to twist to unlock . Idk if its the valet or main one cause It was the one to guy gave me . Is this mechanism on the lid or bottom part ? Does the 02 wrx have these cause I dot remember seeing this

 

its on there. its on the trunk lid itself and not on the body side. I'd recommend you removing your back seat to see if you can get access to your trunk cause if this doesnt work you will have to crawl into there from the backseat.

Yep had to take the brackets out that hold the back rest up on the back seat ... Then had to tech around the sub to barely reach that latch . Thanks man helped alot !

 

your welcome. Also to see if you you really have a valet key, try to lock your glove box. if it doesnt lock/turn then you might want to consider going to the dealership and buying a master key. Just make sure you have valid registration or proof of ownership when you go into the dealer to buy it. It should be less then 30 bucks for a new key. You can even buy the awesome sti keys for like 24 bucks and they normally cut them for free.
