Shift boot + Aftermarket ****?
Hello all,
I want to change my gearshift **** to an aftermarket one, probably the MOMO/Prodrive one they sell in the dealerships. However, I've taken a close look at this and it seems the shift boot for the WRX shifter "clips" on to the shift **** with a little plastic ring that is a permanent part of the **** itself.
If I add an aftermarket ****, the shift boot is just going to "droop" on the shifter and I'll have to look at the ugly threads. Someone has to have a solution for this -- suggestions anyone?

I have a '03 WRB WRX wagon. I installed the MOMO Combat w/ Blue insert.
I still have the original boot, because the MOMO boot w/ blue stitching is on back order.
It was tight, but after installing the MOMO ****, I was able to work the boot collar over the bottom of the ****. FYI, take off [unscrew] the black MOMO collar from the ****.
It felt like the OEM boot collar is only a cardboard ring, did not feel hard enough to be plastic or metal. Taking your time, and slowly working it up the bottom of the ****, it will end up looking fantastic.
Sorry, no pics now as I am at work.
I will post a pic tomorrow if you want.
Not sure if the pic will upload, first time trying. Here is link if it does not post:

Here is a pic of the ****, MOMO's blue is almost a perfect match for the WRB.

It's not that hard to get the boot to stay up with an aftermarket set-screw type ****. I got a small piece of rubber hose, trimmed it to fit snugly on the lever shaft, wrapped it with electrical tape, and put a zip tie on the shaft under it to keep it up. With the **** installed, I pushed the "boot holder" up from inside so the boot was against the bottom of the ****.
There is also a NASIOC member "Paulie" (not sure if he is on here) who was selling custom inserts for the Momo ***** that hold the boot just like the stock one, PM him if you are registered over there.

Yes, I just found the tutorial about this on Scoobymods.com (yours?)... Bought some hose today, I'm going to do the fix tomorrow. How tough is it to get that center console out?

Hey, i have that same **** too! The blue is perfect IMO!
You don't even need tools to get that section of the console out, it just pops out of the clips if you pull up on it gently. The section with the shifter boot slides under the armrest section, so you open up the armrest, pop the front of that section up, then you can pull up the shifter section and release it.
The scoobymods tutorial wasn't mine, but I guess it's a similar procedure.
