reading the oem boost gauge..help...!!
hello..i was wondering if anyone can help me reading my oem boost gauge..i just recently installed a mbc from turbo xs..and wondering..how in the hell do i read that as in psi...??? becuase i know that stock is always before that .1 and ever since i been boosting ..am boosting after .1 which is the second line after .1..and all of a sudden my car jerked very hard..people say i denoted my engine...umm i thinks thats bad..so i turned it down ,so now it is on that one line before after .1..if someone can help me..it would be great...!! thanks
There are conversion charts posted online that a search should turn up, in fact there are probably some posted here and I know there are some on NASIOC. I don't have a link to any at the moment, but in brief-
Your gauge is calibrated in mPa. "0" is of course the same as on the SAE scale and indicates atmospheric pressure.
.05 equals approximately 7 psi, .1 is about 14 psi.
If you went well above .1 you probably hit boost cut and that is why your car jerked. Be very, very careful with an MBC as you can easily destroy your engine with it. If you have an '04 it is even more dangerous than with the '02-03's due to changes in factory engine management. You should do some reading in the tech forums here and at NASIOC for more info. For now turn that MBC down to stock boost levels and watch out for part-throttle full boost which is very bad.
