Great stuff guys! Awesome pics.. Now I have a couple questions... How do you know which are universal and which are not? I like how the one ***** says subaru on it.. pretty cool, but I also like that fact that if you get the universal one it makes it quite a bit shorter..

SubySal: Where did you get your **** from? If you click on the link in my above post it looks like subaru has the same **** that you have... Since it says Momo and Subaru on your **** and you have to screw the **** on, what happens if the momo isn't centered... meaning, I screw it on and the damn logo is sideways or upside down? Is that possible?

Mootis,

Since your uses set screws, what happens after a period of time, do the set screws eventually give way since the shifter **** does take some normal wear and abuse... Could the **** ever just pop off? That would scare me about something that is not threaded on.. that would be horrible and potentially dangerous...

Thanks for the pics!

Great stuff!

I got my **** from the dealer it is the same one from the website and it does screw on. It has nylon threads inside so it gets tight before it hits the stop just like the stock one. In other words you will have no problem getting the logo straight. I paid $84, it lists for $102, but your website has it for $70. For me it was kind of an impulse buy. I must be part crow cause if I see something shiny I gotta have it.
Anyway I had a set screw type **** before on a previous car, it was a cheapee so it did loosen up all the time, however they start to turn first I've never had it just pop off, but Momo's are a much higher quality so that may not be an issue. One downer with the set screw **** is you have to rig some way to keep the boot up. I've seen zip ties, rubber hose, and electrical tape used. They all work, but the direct fit ***** have that barb (see previous pic ) at the bottom so the boot snaps in also just like the stock one. I'm sure the set screw **** will sit down further, but I'd rather have it at the stock height so I favor the direct fit ****. I guess it comes down to what you want.

I actually got the momo **** off of subaru's site... I was a little shocked at the weight of this thing! It's NICE! Very very classy looking in my opinion, plus it already has the "rib" so the boot will sit on it and it threads on. I am waiting to tear everything up, until I get my shifter trim plate and some wire taps so that I can install my turbo timer... I don't feel like tearing the console up more than once..hehehe

Momo **** is awesome! Looks so much nicer than the crappy one when compared to it...

Also on a side note. I got my STI key. This thing OWNS! I have never felt a key of this weight before, makes the other key feel like it's made out of all plastic! I would recommend that as well..hehehe

Can you tell I'm getting happy! I like getting stuff for my rex!

Cool One more pic...

Here's the Momo Race Air Aluminum with the black Momo Boot. This is the 'universal fit' **** with the set screws. I was able to slide the **** all the way down as far as it will go and it feels like a short shifter. Plus the weight of the **** itself really makes the shift feel better IMO (I'm not just imagining this!).

I will say that the metal gets HOT in the summer and very COLD in the winter (don't stick your tongue on it! I triple-dog dare ya! ), but the leather part stays even-temperature so if that's an issue, get the all-leather **** (Race air-leather).

I personally didn't like the look of the aluminum sleeve at the bottom of the shift **** showing...I wanted a more stock look so pulled the boot over the bottom. If you don't have a Momo boot but want the more stock look you can leave off the Momo aluminum screw-on sleeve that covers the set screws, install the ****, and then pull the top of the stock boot up over the exposed threaded bottom part of the **** - it will take some effort but works, the threads hold the boot up, and it looks nice (I had this for a month until Santa brought the Momo Boot you see in the pic ).

I installed the **** with the middle sized rubber stabilizer (didn't have to cut a hole) and slid it down until it could go no further. I then tightened the set screws so hard that I almost broke the allen wrench...it hasn't even budged in 9 months now...plus it doesn't matter if the thread pattern of the shifter gets messed up this low because the stock shift **** doesn't even screw on that far. Another plus of leaving off the set-screw covering sleeve is that you can put the **** on even a little lower because you don't have to leave room at the bottom for it during installation.

I would recommend these shift ***** to anyone...I could never go back to the old shift ****!

OK, I'll stop talking about my **** now...

No I don't have a short shifter installed...mine is stock...
I drove one at the dealer that had the OEM short shifter installed and really don't think my throw is than much farther...and the feel wasn't that great that it had to be on my list of 'things to do' to the car...

Talking ASP Trim plate

Just got my ASP trim plate installed as well...not very difficult and looks great (glad I didn't go with the STi plate, although nice as well)...very high quality piece. Pics on this thread:

You can order them from www.autospeedperformance.com ...I'm not associated with the company or anything, they just machine some very nice stuff for the WRX with the 'WRX' logo on it...
