Momo Shift **** - Adjustable Height Mod
I have the STI Short throw shifter which I think has to tall of height with the stock **** and became even higher with the Momo ****.
This is appicable to the Momo Air Leather and similar Momo Shift ***** that are hollow. It's a pretty popular **** considering how well it matches the steering wheel - I hope this works for somebody!
Here is how to make you're Momo **** have adjustable height. If you have one of these you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. If you don't and are thinking abour getting one ask the shop if the **** you want is hollow.
The Momo **** comes with several different size rubber spacers/caps to achieve a universal fit for all shaft sizes and thread patterns.
To make your momo adjustable - pick the size that fits your shifter shaft and then - using an exacto knife - cut the center out of the spacer/cap so that it can now slide as far down the shifter as you need instead of sitting up on top like a cap. The **** its self if hollow and will allow for you to drop the **** down almost 1.5" and puts the **** in a much sportier position.
This mod made one incredible difference. I didn't do any measurements or scientific equations but the throw feels much shorter and the push into third gear is just right!
You may not need to do this with a Kartboy or similar SS shifter they are not as tall as the stock WRX or the STI short throw. I was in another WRX with the KB and it seemed just right without the mod.
+++ Speaking ergonomics - I'm 5'7" so maybe a taller person with long arms won't like the low set up.

I plan on getting the momo **** that you have... Could you post pics? I am curious to see how this would look!
Right now I think the stock **** is way too tall.. I also have a short throw shifter, the same one you have. I am 6'1", and actually have the armrest extension, and since I have long arms it's nice because I can rest my entire arm and not really get tired of shifting.. but I do like the look of a smaller shift **** in tallness wise.
Thanks :-)

p.s. Did you have to COMPLETELY remove the center console? If so I know about the two screws inside the center console.. are there any other screws?
Thanks,

Momo also makes an air leather/alloy **** that is a direct replacement. I bought one a while back from Subaru they list for $102, but I got the guy at the dealership down to $84 which is still alot. I think it was worth it though because it screws on like the stock one and the shift boot snaps right on to it. Here are a couple of pics:

SubySal:
I thought all the race air momo shift ***** for the rex screwed on?
For instance check out this link:
http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=364
First one, I just took that as it screwed on?
And also here.
http://www.subydude.com/parts/index.php?shiftknobs
Under subaru products, also first one..
Now I don't know if I want it, if it just doesn't screw on...
If you don't mind me asking why in the second picture does it look like the boot is not on correctly? Or is that just the angle?

SubySal - I think that was a nice find - I haven't seen the Momo **** with the Subaru name on it too.
Nigel - here are the photos I took. My **** looks exactly like the ones from SubyDude.com. It is a universal fit **** - nice because if I change to a different shifter later I don't have to worry about my expensive **** fitting. I doesn't screw on like SubySals and you will have to fabricate something to hold up the boot - wrapping electrical tape will work. I used this stuff called Tommy Tape when I lowered the **** - it is a self-adhesive rubber tape. I used electical tape the first time and you can see the residue (yuk!) in some of the photos.
Here is the photo of the **** with rubber adapter caps. The one on the left has the top cut out of it to make it more of a sleeve.

Only Subaru specific ***** screw on otherwise they use little set screws and plastic bushings in various sizes (universal fit type), and I pulled the boot down so you guys can see the barb on the **** to see how it differs from the universal fit *****.
