I can't decide between the STI trim plate or the ASP trim plate. With the STI I have to hack away at the stock console... With ASP all you have to do is screw it in.
Does anyone know the difference between the quality of the two?
Seems like the ASP is a tad better for the fact that it's less that 4 minus bolt on... I do have their front bumber trim and it's really awesome quality and looks sweet!
Thanks,
-Nigel

I've been debating the same thing...
Not to thrilled with the fact that I'd have to take apart my previously installed Momo shifter boot and **** or Dremeling the console...
Ordered a "bolt on" WRX trim plate from Autospeed Performance just to avoid having to take everything apart again, and it looks like a nice piece...should arrive in a week or so...will post a pic when installed...

Welp I got my trim plate :-) But for some reason it doesn't sit right on the shifter console. Since the console is not flat how can I go about making the ASP shifter trim plate sit flush... I tried bending it some what side to side but it does not bend....
Thanks,

What I THINK it is... when you look at your shifter boot, and run your finger along it you can feel out it just SLIGHTLY sticks out of the hole... (if this is making sense) Because of that the trim plate does not want to sit flush with the console..... I have yet to take the console out, I am only doing this once..lol When I need to install my turbo timer, shift **** and trim plate... so until the time being I can't look to see how the boot is attched and why all the way around it just sticks out somewhat...
rhk118 I will have to get pictures for ya of what I did to my trim plate... You know how it says WRX on the top then the symbol on the bottom? I was looking at it and said to myself you can't really see the WRX and the symbol, so I took a super fine tip sharpie and traced the WRX and the logo at the bottom so now they are black and actually stand out in contrast... Looks very very sweet! If you don't want to try that just do a mechanical pencil to see if you like it... Took me about 5 mins to get it right so it all blended on the outline of the letters but it looks nice!

None of thme bolt on, u have to do some dremel workw ith both. I just installed a new shift boot and an STi trim. It was a pain in the behind. Took me like 2-3 hours (wathcing tv at the same time and looking at online tutorials) and you ahve to dremel, and even then u ahve ti tighten the bolts and all these things, but Ill tell you with the new shift boot and trim I am VERY happy with the results. Good luck guys! feel free to email or pm any questions I can tell you everything about the install.
I actaully sued some hot glue gun action to help me out on the bottom and it did wonders.
I mite write a tutorial I see people having a hard time with this all the time.

If anyone wants me to do this for them let me know so I can do it and write a tutorial on it. And how does $20 sound for the install? If you ship it to me, Ill cover the shipping back. let me know if you want to do this.

That's what I was afraid of... Only thing that is different with your trim plate is you actually have nuts to put on the ends of the screws.. where the ASP one has self tapping screws... so if you over tighten they will strip out the plastic!
yuck!
I do like the idea of the hot glue though... hot glue has SOOOOO many uses, I love it! lol
When you removed the console did you remove the shifter boot... and if so was that hard to do?
I'll post some pics after I get done with it.
Thanks,
-Nigel

This place has JDM replacment STI center console part that has the STI trim and the resces for it. You just move your boot over, and bingo! No hacking!

...but I do think hot glue can give the zip-tie a serious run for the money in terms of attaching crap to cars
...well, not crap crap but stuff...you know what I mean...works great for fake front IC's...
The sharpie outlining sounds like a cool idea, and if I don't like it it will just come off with some isopropyl alcohol (or Vodka...hehe...).
I did take off my stock shifter boot to install my Momo boot...that was by far the biggest pain in the a$$ thing I've ever done in my life...There's a plastic bracket that wedges the shifter boot between it and the console and there are 6 plastic spikes sticking out of the bottom of the console where this black bracket slides onto...to those posts are applied these satanic (Did someone say SATAN?!!
) "suicide" fasteners...i.e. they go on one way but don't come off easily without digging in / chewing the hell out of the 6 posts on the console. My method to take them off consisted of one of those small flat-head 'precision' screwdrivers (i.e. for glasses) which I used to bend the 3 metal tabs on each one the opposite direction so they'd slide off...at least you'd think they'd slide off
....so with some gentle excessive force and prying with needle nose pliers and a hammer they eventually came off. The rest was easy! Then I used the hammer to gently flatten them out again and when the new boot was installed they slid back on...luckily the plastic on most of the posts wasn't chewed up too much so they still held...but I can see how some hot glue would come in handy. (Ahhh Duh huh huh...Beavis he said 'handy'
)In any event I don't want to go through that process again, plus I spent a lot of time adjusting the new boot to center it and have 'just the right amount' of boot coming out of the console so it didn't get all bunched up looking (I mean, I like to show boot and all just as much as the next guy, I just don't want to seem un-lady like
)...came out great in the end (Damn little suicide metal rings
...I still get frustrated just thinking about those #$%&ing things...OK where are my
pills?!)In any event, this time I'm centering the plate, drilling a couple of pilot holes, and bolting it on...leaving the whole shifter boot alone...and from what I've seen, in the words of Cartman, it'll look *sweeeet!*
I can't wait until it gets here (they were off getting 'clear anodized' when I talked to ASP...)...

Got my ASP Trim Plate!
Well the ASP trim plate came in today...really high quality piece, very happy with it. It didn't fit flush at first because it slightly overlaps the boot where it meets the console, but a little gentle excessive force and I was able to bend it ever so slightly so it fit flush...then literally drilled pilot holes and screwed it on...took 5 minutes to put it on after I fiddled around with fitment for 15 minutes! It really looks good, especially against the Momo ****. Here's a pic:
Just for fun
Here's another pic which shows the WRX logo on the plate...very cleanly done...
If interested in any other pics I'd be happy to send them to you...

I had to bend the plate just slightly at the middle screws (the bottom pair seen in the picture) so it would sit flush and follow the contour of the console better...and it was the tiniest bit...I was worried if I didn't that the screw would strip the plastic if I tried to snug it on too tight to get it to sit flush...worked well...
