Help!! swaping trunk, now trunk wont lock shut.

Whats the deal..I set up a day to do a trunk swap. The guy with the 2005 wrx came over to swap me for my 2005 STI trunk..We did the swap just removing the trunks not the hinges...Bolted them all up..Then the trunk wouldnt lock back down...Then we swapped the latches..Still wouldnt lock down..We gave up after trying everthing and put our original trunks back on...And again both our own trunks wouldnt lock back down..WTF...He had to drive home with a rope holding his own trunk down..Now I have to figure out why our orginal trunks will not lock shut...Does anyone have any clues???

Did you guys swap out springs?

Also, when you assembled the locks together, did you assemble them correctly? If you didn't - the lock won't latch.

it's not aligned correctly. Same thing with the hood. It won't lock down on the latch if it is not in alignment with it. That's your problem.

Try pulling the trunk release once or physically flipping the latch back to 'open' position. My guess is, the latch is in closed position, that is why it won't lock.

i tried flipping the latch several times...Also you can not align the trunk...there are four holes...one is egg shaped the other is not so you can not move the trunk around to align it...no one else has had this problem? We must be the 2 dumbest guys in the bay area..

here, It looks very simple and should correct the problem. Go to 02 wrx, body pdf, security and locks...

Send me a PM, I can help you guys out this weekend to swap trunks. I've done it a few times already - and you'll really want to swap out trunk springs too.

The bottom latch part is adjustable and the latch itself can be adjusted a bit.
It really sounds like the latch is thrown(not the lever on the side) and so it won't close.

Hey - congrats on getting it figured out. I am thinking I will put on a carbon fiber trunk in the future but I am concerned that it will affect high speed handling. Let me know if you have any handling changes.

Anyone else done a swap or spoiler removal? Any effect on handling?
