A/f Gauge Question

I am going to hook up my Greddy a/f gauge. I was reading over the install directions and it says that I have to drill a hole in the exhaust manifold and install a sensor. But I thought I read some where that you could just tap of the Ecu or Utec in my case because that is what I am running. Can anyone tell which way to hook it up?

Just to let you know, an A/F guage is useless on a wrx.

Why do you say it is useless?

The ones that tap the ECU are useless because you have to tap the rear 02 sensor which is narrowband and not a true A/F sensor, and also it is too far downstream in the exhaust and after the cats. The front sensor is a wideband A/F sensor that can't be tapped into. So, if you tap the rear sensor the gauge readings will have little value aside from providing a light show.
The only accurate A/F gauges are the ones that use a separate, dedicated wideband sensor mounted in the manifold.

I call that gauge the Happy Disco Party Light Gauge. Completely worthless, but fun to look at.

My gauge has a seperate sensor to hook up to the manifold so that should work correctly right?

under full throttle it can give you an idea of your air/fuel but its not accurate. There is a wideband you can get for a decent price now, I think it was like 550 or so. I'll get back to you if I find it again
