The first gauge is mechanical. So you have to plumb hot boost into the passenger compartment of the car. No big deal unless your tubing splits...

The Greddy gauge is electronic. Instead of plumbing the boost into your car you do it to a sending unit under the hood. Then route a signal wire into the passenger compartment from the sending unit.

I think the later is worth it. Especially after $%@ car wash people FUBARed my last mechanical gauge creating a boost leak three inches from my hands. You also get some more bells and whistles with the electronic gauge.

(Yah I know it isn't actually hot.)

I started with an Autometer mech. boost gauge and later switched to a larger Greddy Elec one. Both served they're purpose and both seemd to rear exactly the same.

Get what you can afford.

you get what you pay for. I am about to order the autometer sport comps, why you may ask? I was planning on defi or omori but like many otehrs on this board, we cant spend 170+ per gauge. For the price the autometers do a good job even though they doint look as nice. But yea if you have the money go for it and get a nice set of elecs.

I went with Greddy electr

It is a very well built gauge and I just don't like the idea of a pressure line coming into the cockpit. The Greddy unit has nice thin wire to route through the firewall.

like tkdan said, you get what you pay for. And the difference is in accuracy, ability to maintain calibration and durability.

FYI - i've heard Autometer is the shizzit in Japan. Funny, eh?
