Question dealer add on gauges

This may be a dumb quest. but i have the three gauge pod where normally the clock is, in my o2 wrx. Boost gauge, volt gauge, and
a temp gauge in Celsius. My quest. is where's the temp being taken from, i'm guessing exhaust but know where in any manual does it say. it usually run between 50 & 90 degrees

50 & 90? I forget which gauges are in the dealer pack, but that sounds more like water temp to me. Exhaust temperatures when just idling are around 350-400C.

The third gauge in the factory gauge pack is an oil temperature gauge. The temperature probe is located in the oil pan drain plug. It's actually a different plug which replaces the original one when the gauge pack is installed.
One thing to be aware of, if you have the gauge pack and you change your own oil the drain plug size is 27mm rather than the standard (14mm?) size, so make sure you have a 27mm open-end wrench on hand.

Mulder is right the temp is oil temp in the drain plug, you can also use a 1-1/16" open end too that will fit.

I have some install directions scanned in here:

Here are some conversion charts for the gauges:

Boost:

PS the stock drain plug is 17mm
