Exclamation cigarette lighter plug

Why is it that when I plug things into my cigarette lighter radar detectors ect. That not all thing will work when I plug them in. Most radar detectors will not work when I plug them into my lighter. And my new Garmin GPS will not work either.

Thats what I thought but I checked teh fuses and none were blown unless i missed one I checked the box in the car and under the hood.
But it is also weird that some things will work and some will not.

But thanks alot I will check my fuses again to be sure.

the wire may have come loose. its a pretty small wire that goes to those things so they can break easily. The plug in my girlfriends honda didn't work for the longest time supposedly and then I plugged something in and she told me it wasn't going to work and I was like "....uh, its workin now" so your car and her car must just have gremlins

Also, the lighter doesn't work with the car turned off. The key at least has to be to ACC.

Cool all of you have been a big help so I will check the wires also
and the lighter also works too and only certain things I plug in will get juice to work. Maybe I do have Gremlins i havent washed my car in 2 weeks it will multiply if it gets wet.

Some lighter plugs are shaped differently than others, and may not make good contact in the socket.
If some devices work when plugged in then it's not a fuse issue.
FYI there is a thermal fuse built into the back of the lighter socket itself, so if the socket overheats for some reason (device with too much draw plugged in, high plug-to-socket resistance etc) that fuse will blow and you will then need a new socket.

Well if it works sometimes it won't be the fuse. When that blows nothing will work. Also note that to see the integrated fuse you have to remove the socket from the console since it's in the back.
