If you cannot find a blue bulb for it, there is an alternative. They make little blue rubber/plastic things that you can slide over the existing bulb. It will give it the blue color. You can find these at autozone, advanced, etc.

Actually in the manual of my 03' rex it doesn't tell you some of the bulbs used... example, fog light bulb, side marker light bulbs, dome and map lights...
Does anyone actually have the dome/map bulb number that is used. I would also like to change the color.
Thanks,
-Nigel

If you can't find out......just take one of the ones out of your dome/map light to the store and ask them about it.
on the other hand, the size is 10x31mm and its a 12v 8w unit.
Does anyone know if using 12v 10w will yield just a lower output? or might it put too much excess strain on the wiring?

In a constant voltage system, the wattage refers to how much power a device "draws", and in this case, the higher the brighter (at least when it's the same technology -- e.g. a 120W incandescent is brighter than a 100W one, but so is a 100W halogen or perhaps even an 80W HID). As for the wiring, you'd need to consider the fuse current rating and present load as well as the actual wire ratings. I think the fuse is 20A, or 240W, but the circuit is probably designed to draw no more than about 120W, so the extra 2W shouldn't be an issue. I don't know about the newer cars, but I've been using a 10W Sylvania DE3175 bulb for the dome in my 96 for some time, so I doubt you'd have a problem doing the same. From the dimensions and original ratings given, I bet it's the same bulb, but if they've got those electronic lighting guides at any of the shops around there (Pep Boys, Advance, etc.) you could check that, too. Good luck!
Like larvey said.. the blue bulb condoms are the way to go.. very inexpensive.. i got mine at Walmart even.. cut to lenth slip on and re-install the bulb. did the dome light and both map lights in my car.. looks great and gives a cool blue tint to the lights..
