Does it require changing?

If it is a filter, it would get dirty..right? Do you periodically changr it out? Is it a 30 minute job each way?

thanks

You can get the filter for about $30 from one of the online dealers vs. about $70 locally. It installs through a door in the HVAC housing behind the glovebox.
Replacement interval on the filter will vary depending on how dirty the air is where you drive. IIRC correctly the "specified" interval is 7500 mi. or 1 year but you'll be able to tell if it gets really clogged because less air will come through the vents. It may also be possible to clean it by gently knocking out any loose dirt and blowing low-pressure air through it in the direction of the normal airflow.
Some people have also made their own filters from A/C filter material obtained at Home Depot and cut to size for much less $$.

You may need the cover housing. Not all Imprezas have the air filtration cover. I initially thought it was a drop a plug thing but I was mistaken. I would just check with your local dealer to see if your MY just needs the filter or if you need the housing as well.

I have one in the RS. Here are pics after a year:

Mine installed like this:

But I think the WRX ones are behind the glove box as stated. Not sure if it comes with the hatch or not.

I just run these cabin filters until the air flow from the vents slows down enough to notice. The filter element in my (former) Taurus went almost three years before I felt there was a need to replace it. I don't care about the time interval.

Good suggestion! This should work as long as it is the type of filter medium that catches really small particulate matter such as pollen, animal dander, etc. They also have to make sure that the filter material is sealed at the edges. Any loose fit will allow contaminants through the path of least resistance.
