So, i bought the Jazzy Engineering CD -> ipod mod and put it into an 06 head unit that someone traded to me. Now, I didn't find a spot to hook in my 12v line for the ipod charger so I just plugged the 3.5mm jack into my phone.

First of all, the CD doesn't play. Anyone know where I can download a blank audio file to burn to a cd? or will it take any blank cd with nothing at all on it?

The audio plays no matter what mode the unit is in if I hit play on my phone. So, even though the CD wasn't working i got audio to play when the head unit is in the AM and FM modes but there is still the background static from no reception or it plays on top of whatever you ARE recieving. So, the CD is the only real way to go, hence the question above.

Where do I find a 12v line in my 02 wrx wagon for iphone charging power and whats a convenient place for a ground line? can i just stick into to the dash crossmember? Is that grounded? seems like it should be...

Why might the head unit be dim? or are they always barely visible during mid-day sunlight?

Let me know if you've ever done one of these.

So in case anyone searches for this later...

The head unit turned out not to be as dim as I thought. It must have been sunnier than I thought the first time i put it in.

For the power supply i tapped a vampire clip into the 12v line for the clock, and I attached the ground wire to the dashboard crossmember right behind the radio.
