My engine went boom, any cheep turbo replacments

So it's a 1994 impreza and several years ago it went boom, i was going to sell my scca ITA car and build a rally car out of my subaru, that plan has fallen through do to life. Now at $3.60 a gallon my truck is killing me gas wise
I am going to get the impreza back on the road, and i still want to have fun, is there a turbo motor cheep, like out of a older legacy or that older XT coup that would be a relatively cheep turbo swap? OR is it just best for me to grab a motor slam it in there and be glade I have something easier on gas then my truck?

Any ideas or lead would be nice
Thanks, and its good to be back
Paul

turbo swap = not cheap. But that hinges on what your definition of cheap is. a wrx motor and trans would be around 4k if you look, and then you deal with swapping everything yourself.

Being that 15+ year old subaru engines aren't spamming classifieds and not too many wreckers keep a backstock of these engines, I'd say it would be really tough to find anything in good condition, cheap, and turbo.

rebuild what you have, it'll probably cost under 1.5K tops; keep it NA and up the compression with some new pistons, port the heads, throw some cone air filter/cheap velocity stack on it and it'll be way more fun.

that is if the block isn't grenaded
