DIY ECU upgrades/mods

I own a 2003 wrx with AEM cold air + 3"HKS Hi-Power exhaust with uppipe

I know that the ecu needs mods to run everything to the potential such as air/fuel mix and what not.

how could I do the mods myself without blowing the motor

I know there are some things I could do but not sure of what they exactly are

thanks in advance
