Why are there suggestions for crazy high performance tires?

Zhu, It will probably be best to just grab something that's all season in the $100/tire range. A good place to do research is TireRack. You can't go wrong with anything they sell and they have ratings and reviews for just about everything.

I know. I just recommended something that was inexpensive and didn't drive like it. It just so happens to crazy high performance tire. Inexpensive/budget tires generally come with a compromise.

This would be my other recommendation.

It will last a little longer than the Federals.

would also be a good idea to list your budget, some people think cheap is $200 per tire

I'm not hating on the recommendations. It looks like a good tire that I've never heard of. But it's not something I would be confident with year round.

So you suggest Krazy Glue while Elmer's will do just fine?

sorry i don't use cheap tires and i won't suggest them to anyone regardless of how little they want to spend. if you're cool with using generic tires then suggest something to the kid looking for tires. i'll suggest what i think is going to do the best job and when the elmers glue fails to hold together your house and it falls on your head, i'll recommend some krazy glue.

So it never rains in Hawaii?

I made my suggestion, I think your suggestion is overkill.

because rain will melt the tires? no seriously where does this even come from? it's not like these are v710s or Hoosiers we're talking about. look i've run RS3s daily for over a year and even in heavy rain there were no worse than any other tire. the op wanted grippy and safe and thats what i gave him. idk how people drive where you live but we have some of the worst drivers in america and if i had to swerve to avoid getting nailed by a bad driver i'd want the stickiest damn tire i could buy. but yea good suggestion, i'm sure a good all season tire will do just fine

I guess there's not much to sway you. It looks like you're sucking the Hankock pretty good.

were you trying to sway me? maybe next time you'll say something intelligent and i'll listen. really reverend retard why didn't you buy a Kia? i mean you don't need the best car you can afford right? why buy a Subaru when a Kia will do just fine? practice a bit of what you preach or get off your soapbox lest you open your mouth again and expose more people to your ignorance.

OP if you tell us what you're looking to spend we can make suggestions to suit your needs. you aren't likely to find a set of lightly used tires as they don't come up very often in that size. otherwise check craigslist or forumshawaii.

I should buy a Kia?! WTF kind of statement is that? I bought a 2.5i. Notice, I didn't get a WRX or a STi. My 2.5i suits me better than any Kia ever would.

You're telling us that the Hankook RS3 is, hands down, the best tire ever (even though it isn't) and that anyone would be a fool to get anything else. I'm just trying to say that the OP probably doesn't need am "Extreme Performance Summer" tire and that it would be insanely overkill for just putting around the island. But you won't have any of that.

what i'm telling you is that IMO the RS3 is a good, cheap, grippy, safe tire. those are all things the OP asked for. what difference does it make if it is a performance summer tire? it's still a tire isn't it? it still does the job just as well as any other (probably better than most) right? what if the OP decides he wants to try auto-x? should he have to go buy new tires because he got some bad advise from you and went with the "good enough" tire? i don't know anyone who has ever said "man, i wish i went with a less high performance tire and just got a nice all season radial". i never said there was only one choice and i really don't care what tire he buys. tires are one of if not the most important thing you will buy for your car and should not be taken lightly. if you don't understand the difference between a good tire and a good enough tire then i feel sorry for anyone who gets in your car.

IMO $139/tire is not cheap. And the OP also said that they would be for his girlfriend making the probability of spirited driving or Auto-X unlikely.

I have a decent set of performance tires that I use for DD and Auto-X. When I go on a long roadtrip I take them off and put on a set of stock spec all season tires. No need to for high end tires if I'm just driving in a straight line for hundreds of miles.

I wish the OP would give us some feedback. He was online this morning but it looks like he was just lurking.

you've never had to buy tires here. maybe one day you can come visit and see how much things cost here and you'll realize that maybe $140 isn't bad for a tire. heck i'll bet you'd have a hard time finding a decent tire in that size where you are for much less than $140. I mean try it, call any place here that sells tires and let me know what you find. bottom line is that without anything more than "i need a good/cheap tire" we aren't getting anywhere.
