04 sti engine soon to be up for sale. Check it out while it's still in the car!
I got a 2.5L 04 STI engine in my 03 wrx. I am going the 2.0L JDM STI engine route, so it will be up for sale. Just testing the waters right now....as it will be a month or so before I do the swap.
Please make an offer if you are interested. When I get closer to the swap day serious buyers can come and go for a ride to hear the engine, and feel it pull!
Runs great no problems, good replacement for blown 04 sti, or swap into wrx.
ALSO SOON TO BE FOR SALE:
5 speed wrx transmition
wrx rear diff
wrx axles
wrx breaks
03 wrx stock 16" rims, with brand new NeXen N2000 tires
...oh yea, and a stock 03 wrx engine.
Make offer.....best offer gets Dibbs!
Thanks,

at least there is possibilities of a second JDM Engine owner in HI. I'm the first. If you have a USDM engine already why do another swap. It doesn't make sense. So you have only the engine and not trans?

Engine has about 30K miles on it. I have the ECU for it and some of the wire harness, but I did not get the whole harness when I got the engine.
The reason I am going the JDM engine route is because I have a 03 WRX and the 04 STI engine is fly-by-wire throttle, and the 04 ECU will not match up with my harness.......so rather than rewire my whole car, I just reflashed my WRX ECU and hooked up the 04 engine with my WRX harness and ECU. It runs fine that way, and for other WRX owners it is an easy swap that you can do yourself......but the AVCS is not going to work. It just defaults to a neutral position.
I now want AVCS, and a 2.0L JDM engine because they run smoother, and are capable of "about" the same power. Besides, I am getting the JDM setup with the engine, trans, axles, diff, breaks, and all......
I have not yet decided what I am going to ask for the stuff I have for sale. So make me an offer and I will go from there.
.....and again, the engine will be sold while it is in my car so people know it is a good engine.....buyer will get it after I succesfully do the swap, after all this car is my daily driver (must minimise down time)
Thanks for checking out my post....... --NewWRXer

Howzit,
I am interested and so is my friend Ed (sub-sonic). I have a few questions.
1) Do you have the STi pedals?
2) Exactly what part of the harness do you have?
3) Are you going to include the x-member?
4) Are you including the turbo, ic, up-pipe, and manifold with the sale?
5) Was the engine from a wrecked STi and have you done a leakdown?
6) Do you have the STi cluster?
Thanks!

USDM STI DOES have AVCS but not the same type that is on the JDM Engines but you do have it. it is not the same since you have 0.5 more displacement on the USDM Engine.
If the car is running fine and you want people that are interested in to "feel the pull" then i don't see why you're going through so much trouble.
If the AVCS for the USDM STI engine isn't working you'll be getting a CEL that states it's not active. If it's anything like the JDM AVCS you'll only need to INTEGRATE 8 or 9 wires total into your EXISTING USDM WRX harness to get it to work. I'm sure you can find information on this online if you search.
The USDM 04 STI ECU will plug straight into your WRX harness with no problems you'll just need to research on how to integrate the DBW into your WRX harness or convert it to cable which will.
Who have you called regarding the the things you need done to make it "work properly"? There are a lot of knowledgeable people on i-club.com or nasioc.com that can provide more information.
It's your choice and your money to do what you'd like but make sure you know what you're selling since the people that are posting are very knowledgeable about the subject and the things that you're selling. It would save you *** loads of money if you just stick with what you've got

so if the car is running what's wrong with the way you're running it? i mean all you'll have to do is research on making your car DBW rather than cable driven. From what I remember you should only need the gas peddle from the 04 STI (can be found used online) and possibly splice a couple of wires. NO BIGGY and a lot less time changing out all the things that you already have on the car anyway.

About the Drive by wire:
The 04 STI has a 4 plug ECU. The 03 WRX has a five plug ECU. To get the drive by wire, and AVCS to work you need a five plug ECU to control it (and the only 5 plug ECUs are JDM and they don't have drive by wire), or rewire the WRX for a 4 plug ECU (but the wire harness is intergrated in the WRX, so you cannot just swap the engine harness, you have to rewire the whole car). Trust me I have researched the matter. Before you go telling people they are waisting money, you need to learn what you are talking about, and quit waisting my time correcting you.
Besides drive by wire is limiting, and gets in the way with tuning, so it's better to go with a JDM STI manifold that is cable (why do you think the JDM STI is cable throttle? Easy, cause' it's better!), or simply use the WRX manifold on the STI engine. If you swap out the manifold to cable, then you can run the engine off a reflashed WRX ECU (which is what I did). However, to get the AVCS to work in a car with a WRX 5 plug ECU you need to put a JDM STI 5 plug ECU in there. It is for cable throttle and AVCS, however it is not as easy as swapping it into the car. The USDM AVCS pickups are "hall type" and JDM AVCS pickups are not compatable. You cannot just change the sensors, because the cam lobes for the sensors are also different.............so "iNfEk", as you can see it's not as easy as you say, huh?
Are there other ways to get it to work? Yes. Do I have time to explain them all to you? No. I thought about going with a standalone ECU like a "HYDRA EMS", but got a good deal on a full JDM setup....(sorry your not the "only JDM STI subaru in hawaii anymore", but don't burn me over it!)
And your know it all coment:
"If the AVCS for the USDM STI engine isn't working you'll be getting a CEL that states it's not active. .....tells me that you don't understand my setup at all. Why would I get a "CEL light" telling me it's not working when my ECU doesn't have AVCS capability? The ECU is what sends out the codes for the CEL, and with the AVCS not hooked up, and the WRX ecu reflashed for the larger displacement, it can't tell that the engine isn't the original WRX engine with larger displacement.
do I need to say anymore?.........ok
"The USDM 04 STI ECU will plug straight into your WRX harness with no problems you'll just need to research on how to integrate the DBW into your WRX harness or convert it to cable which will."
After educating yourself by reading what I wrote above does this still make sence to you? The 03 WRX has a 5 plug ECU, the 04 STI has a four plug ECU. Ever try to put a round plug in a square hole iNfEk? Doesn't work.
I'm guessing you didn't put that engine in you car yourself. By your lack of knowledge it sounds like you payed someone to do it for you.........
CUT ME SOME SLACK. I'M JUST TRYING TO SELL SOME STUFF. I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS CRAP.
.....I apologize to other people (who are potential buyers) that I have not answered your questions, but people bashing me need to be addressed first.

Hey iNfEk, thanks for your concern, but it is unfounded so lay off. I have been building motors for over 10 years, and have already researched the pros and cons to each option. Just because this is my first subaru(Subaru) doesn't mean my knowledge doesn't bleed over. I don't have the time to explain every detail of why I am doing what I am (doing), but because you persist..........I will go at it one more time, so give it a break!

I could care less if I'm not the only JDM STI owner in Hawaii. I know what I've installed on my car and I know what I'm fully capable of. I do not need to prove myself to anyone on this board let alone you. I was simply trying to help you out instead of you spending thousands of dollars on another setup when you have a good setup already. Through I-Club we help and support our other members rather than attempting to start unnecessary arguments that get nowhere. I have NEVER brought my car to any shop to install anything except my alarm system.
10 years of building engines has nothing to do with what you've posted. You never stated your exact setup only that you have a WRX with a 04 USDM STI Engine in it.
You need to take your forumshawaii flame suit off when you come to HIIC. Enjoy your stay and good luck with your sale.

third item down is a cam sensor adaptor for using an ej25 in a wrx. so it would seem that it is kinda that easy huh? doesn't seem like you're saving a lot of effort over just swapping out the harness. if all you want is a jdm 2.0 for the sake of having it then thats cool but untwist your panties. it was only a sugestion since nobody knows who you are to potentially save you some $. whatever you decide to do you'll have better luck and a much easier time if you try not to get so butthurt.
