Thumbs up your roads

Just left after a week in Maui and a fun run back from the Hana drive.

WOW! Do you have neat roads - even in a rental. Yeah, great beaches, but I'd come back for the driving - I'll rent a Subie

It must be Maui, because the roads here on Oahu suck. I went home to CT a couple weeks ago and had an absolute blast re-acquainting myself with my favorite winding back roads. Can't wait to get back...

I take it Mauna Kea is tall/steep?

Back in 2002 I drove cross country and went over the Rockies. Crossed over the top around 13,500ft. On the way back down, I probably went a good 20 miles with the car in neutral, using the brakes occasionally to keep it under 100mph.

I've honestly been disappointed by the lack of good roads here on Oahu. There's so much nice scenery, and plenty of elevation change, one would think those two would lead to more fun/scenic roads. Alas, it's not to be (at least from what I've seen)...

dude, oahu has the worst roads I have seen, especially where the H-2 and H-1 meet up going east towards town.. seems like someones tire is always getting shredded, esp in the fast lane...

Unhappy glad

Well I am glad that I went to the right Isle. My only other visit to HW was the airport in '69 returning from military service - 1 1/2 hours in the airport and left.

Maui was a kick and I have never seen such smooth roads. The weather must be nice on the asphalt. I am sure that is not true in CT. It was not so in MN. Just wish I had rented a Forester rather than a mid sized fwd
