Honolulu's rough roads add $688 a year to your driving costs

"Honolulu drivers pay $688 in additional vehicle operating costs — more than twice the national average — each year due to poor pavement conditions."

Just went to Lanikai today and I thought I was offroading!

no joke, i visited a friend in Honolulu in april and was shocked at how much the roads sucked, I'm not sure, but I think it might have to do with the shifting of the ground as the islands have active magma underneath. That and just neglect. Anyway sorry guys, the roads aren't much better in ca anyway...

You know...Honolulu actually bought this "special truck" that was supposed to just drive up and fill all pot-holes like with most of the work automated.

Apparently someone at the C&C forgot to make sure that the truck could actually handle the asphalt mix needed in HI.

Another +1 for Honolulu...I think it was on the last mayor's watch though so not on Mufi...but damn they still need to fix some holes...use that stimulus money for something.

it's all a conspiracy. good roads = no work to be done. no work to be done = unemployment. this is why after every good rain fall the patched up potholes seem to dig them selves up. then again it would not surprise me if the pot patcher guys are half assing the asphalt, knowing it is crap and knowing it will not survive the next storm.

Louisiana has horrible roads because the ground shifts some much being so close to the Gulf on marshes. Probably has a lot to do with Hawaii also.

lol, don't say that out loud because our politicians are gonna start using that excuse now. most of it is neglect. the city keeps increasing our taxes but the roads are definitely not on their priority list.

Statement is True!! I know for a fact but patching potholes is not easy work especially if you dont have the "Real Heavy equipments" I say we need same condition roads as the AutoBahn but thats not going to happen.

i read somewhere awhile back that the autobahn is twice to three times thicker than the standard US roads. Also when they have a pot hole or a damage portion of the road they don't patch but replace that whole section of road. I am not sure how big the section is but I would say that is smart considering you have cars doing in excess of 100+. can you imagine hitting a pot hole at a 100+? 150+?

speaking of ****ty-*** roads, have any of you guys driven on middle street? talk about half-*** patch ups. I pity the fool on coilovers, and those who have other halves with jugs that ride in their cars with them, god bless your car's soul....phew!
