30K Service
30K is coming up and I did some search on the board and I need you guys opinions on this also...
Some say 30K is too early to change spark plugs unless I get the one step colder... is it worth it? How many of you are using this? They said the same thing about brake fluids... it would be better to do it when I install SS brake lines (which I intend to do in the future). I should just change that also then? Or should I wait a bit...
Jon, this question is for you since you and I both have 4EAT... what auto tranny fluid did you use? I think I'll need to replace the AT Tranny filter(s) (one is like the oil filter, the other one is a metal mesh screen thingie)... I forgot what it calls...
Radiator flush, rear diff fluids... etc. etc... Any suggestions on the rear diff fluids... too many brands came up in the search.
Taking it to the dealer is out of the question... (I hate Five Star Subarus)
Should I do it myself... of course with helps... lots of them pls... how long of a job would that be?? I'm guessing 3 hour plus...
OR
Take it to... say... umm... Vakamon... just bring my fluids.
I'm leaning towards the second options. Anyhow, your inputs (especially Jon's on the tranny) are valuable. But if you want to be a wise a$$ then take it somewhere else, caz this is a milestone for my car and I want to do things right.

well... I'm using colder spark plugs and they are cheap enough to change at regular intervals (as needed) NGK 6097 BKR7E is the number that I'm using. Available at any Parts Plus location (if they don't have it in stock they can bring it in from their warehouse).
I've used a number of different fluid. I've used Redline D4 (good), Amsoil ATF (good) but I would stay away from the cheap stuff unless that's all that you can afford right now. I however didn't replace my filter inside the trans pan area (should have but didn't) and I think I'll need to do that soon!
you don't need to replace the external trans filter unless it's damaged physically (i don't know the part number but you can get it from the filter itself)
for my diff fluids (front and rear) i think i used redline 75W90 synthetic
you don't have to take it to 5 star... you can take it to Ohana Subaru
-- since I've already given you input can i be a wize *** now
j/k
brake fluid flush should be done at this time (if you can afford it i'd get the lines so you can do them all at one time). I just did Rudy's fluid flush and his looked cloudy and white when it came out (not so good)
give me a call if you have any other questions.
the job for the lines/fluid/pads should take about 3 hours or so. trans flush should take another 1~1.5 hours. rear diff and front diff should take another hour or so. replacing the trans fliters and pan sealant should take about 1.5 hours (plus cure time).
there you go...

i recommend that you change the spark plugs(might as well)
might as well pick up ss lines with fluids...
radiator flush-yes
diff-like what jon said, and why not change the oil filter(i did)
you should do it yourself, or with help from other i-clubbers and just do it one at a time if you like .....

I'm going to research on brake pads too... too many brands...
Okay... n00b question... do we use the same fluid for the tranny and rear diff? I'm sure the manual has information on how much of the stuff to put in.
Julio, I know you got a brake fluid pump and a funnel thingie too!!
Mind as well change the radiator hoses... need some color in my engine bay...
I'll make a list to keep myself from going overboard... thx 4 da feedback guys... keep'em coming.

no you don't use the same fluid for the tranny and the rear diff.
since the 4eat tranny has 2 fill holes one is for the FRONT diff and the other is for the tranny fluid.
you would use the same (i'll have to double check but I'm 99.5% sure) to use the same fluid for the 4eat on both FRONT and REAR differentials.
transmission fluid is complete different!
you do NOT need to replace your factory radiator hose since the silicon does absolutely nothing for you! if it ain't broke don't fix it!
i've used:
Axxis Ultimate pads (awesome stopping for auto-x and street they just dust way to much)
Carbotech Bob Cats (good stopping for auto-x and street / very low dust) <<~ currently just used in my TWR brakes and stop brakes

4EAT ONLY!
Front Diff: 1.2 Qts 80W90 (GL-5)
Tranny Fluid: 9 Qts (when over hauled) probably about 7 but I would just buy a case "in case **** happens)
Rear Diff: 0.8 Qts (1 Qt) (GL-5 80W90 <<~ you'll need to use some good sealant when putting back the diff screws

^^ my personal experiences with iridium spark plugs aren't so good. they don't last long enough.
other people (including the DSM guys/girls...etc.) say that they are crap! you spend way to much money on them to last the same amount if not less than regular copper plugs. unfortunately that is your decision on what type of plugs to use.
I've been using the NGK 6097 BKR7E spark plugs for years with absolutely NO PROBLEMS... also I spend less than 1 box of 4 plugs for a few sets for these plugs.
these plugs go for about $2 each and will last pretty long.
Just my some insite
