Would this be a good start?

I know some have built up some engines I was wondering if something like this would be a good start or something not to waste time on. Main long term goal would be to extract most HP and run a turbo like a SR50 or something like that. And how low can you lower the compression on these I know the Eclipse I got from Sean was like 7.8:1 compression is that possible on a Subaru engine? These are new to me I've only dealt with Chevrolet & VW engines any and all info is welcomed and please no flaming...Or am I asking for it. First step would be to get a engine then in X-amount of years it will be done..Budget pending.

I don't think the 2.0 is good for much more than what Wes has achieved. I believe they even state on the APS website that the SR50 is better suited to at least 2.5, anyhow.
You're not talking about your STI, right? I think that that car is already already where it needs to be. It's design is symbiotic already.

So for this engine a little bit smaller turbo would be more suited.. And no it would not be going near my car I would like to pick up a 98-01 RS, or a L model something, older, similiar and cheap. Maybe something like a SR40 would be better I forgot I just read that the SR50 best suits a 2.2L - 2.5L.

The SR40 would work according to them (they were so tight-lipped for the longest time about their trims). I'd guess it'd be a pretty laggy drag machine. If that's the case, I'd vote for the Impreza L.

Hey Dom, you think we could squeeze that into a Impreza L or what. I see you can weld thats all I need to know
Now you got me thinking ya know anything can be done with some creativity....Oh and a SR50 would be great but right now money is tight or should I say paying off bills so I can buy car parts my accountent (wife) said some bills got to get paid first. I'm trying to get some money out of her for some small stuff.
