The Windsor "302" you're referring to is from the 60's to late 90's. The 5.0L I'm talking about is 2010. As I remember correctly, it is now also 2010, which makes it new. Unless you're a time traveller that is. Also, the 302 you are talking about most commonly produced ~220hp. The 5.0L I'm talking about produces 412 stock.

If you want to discuss about how the new Taurus SHO engine isn't new, be my guest because...guess what? The first cars that the Ecoboost V6 engines came out with was......wait for it............

2009 Taurus SHO, 2009 Lincoln MKT/MKS, 2009 Ford Flex. I guess you're really a time traveller.

An IC engine is an IC engine. Like i mentioned, you only improve on something that already existed. You take something that runs on an Otto 4 stroke cycle and basically find ways to improve efficiency. I'm not really a time traveller, just saying that engine technology really hasn't changed.

The bottom line is, if you want to see something interesting, then go look at toyota and that funky one man people mover. Or maybe you can go to honda and see how they have products ranging from lawn mowers to jets to robots.

I'm not trying to tell Subaru to use Ion Drive, nuclear power, cow farts, or something. Just they need either a new model or new engines in addition to their stale offering atm.

There is pretty much nothing left for subaru to do with their engine except for what they already have done. Make a diesel version which is supposedly coming out soon. Unless you want subaru to come out with an inline 4 configuration that everybody already has.

All i'm trying to say is that there is very little wiggle room for innovation for the IC engine, period. If there is a "new engine" that comes out, it is pretty much a derivative of an older engine or a modified version of a successful one. More power? great! More fuel economy? Great! But there is little left to IC engine innovation short of it running on water.

I for one, bit that apple and I quite liked it. I'm already down to 2 choices for my next car in a year and a half. E63(family) or SL63(no family). Talk about customer retention. I guess they are #1 in 2009 for a reason.

Forget the LGT, you can buy my car. It has some really cool goodies.
Your car is nice however, not to be a dick but there's no way I will buy a M-B if I could just go get a BMW or Audi. Not to say that the M-B isn't pimp but I want more performance if I am paying that much cash. Different strokes (lol) for different folks.

Either way, won't be driving a luxo car until much later from now...not willing to deal with the cost of ownership.

Plus I'd need AWD anyways to counter-act my crappy snow/ice driving skills.

Well when you don't find what you want, I guess you go see somewhere else...
A Company cannot make every customer happy I guess.

I kind of like how Subaru works. "1" engine + "1" drivetrain = lots of different cars.

Subaru should try making smaller car like the new VW GTi R20!

--------

A bit OT, I just got a 1997 Nissan Skyline R33 GTS25T.... and I wish they still made that old 6-inline egnine compare to the VQ35DE.

The RB25DET is ****ing amazing! why they replaced that amazing engine!

dang you guys know a lot about the auto industry. but primarily (but without as much background knowledge) i agree with BoOm and i think we actually discussed it in another thread.

in late 08 i got bored of my 04 sti and didnt like the new direction subaru was going in so i decided to get an evo. i then realized i didnt do as much research as i should have and ended up not liking the evo overall. i really like what nissans been doing lately so my new mission is to find a used 09 370Z within the next year.

i also agree with this in that i was alienated as part of the niche-market core customers. subaru has always been looked at as goofy so i understand their move to be more mainstream. so i just did the grown up thing: I called them gay and moved on.

There is almost nothing like the "feel" and flexibility of an inline-6. I never had a chance to drive the older skylines, but my dad does have something in a similar configuration. A 1971 240Z.

Actually to add, 2-3 engines + 2 or 3 platforms = Nissan's whole lineup and
3-4 (maybe 5) engines + many platforms = mess (toyota)

Well, toyota isn't doing everything totally wrong...

Toyota = 1,554,174 (on a bad year)
Nissan = 689,014 (also a sales losing year)
Subaru = 216,652 (best year evarrrr)

I always felt subaru sales had increased these last few years due to the change to more mainstream cars + the addition of new models.

I think they are doing just fine. Subaru took that right path as a business. I still do want to see more affordable performance cars from them though.

Subaru increased the most of any car brand in overall consumer perception this year.

http://autos.yahoo.com/articles/auto...nd-perception/

"Toyota maintained its Number one spot. But overall score improvements helped Ford to slip past Honda into second place and allowed Chevrolet to rise to fourth place, from ninth. Subaru's 39-point increase, which was the largest of any brand and almost double its 2009 score, boosted the brand to ninth place, from last year's 18th position."

You just posted something that Blake posted almost 3 days ago.

It's nothing new, brand perception isn't something to be seriously taken. Chevy's on the list, yet 90% of their cars don't please any of the car enthusiasts out there(save Camaro and Vette) and is one of those car companies I truly believe should be axed forever. Again, you totally miss the point of my thread, but instead deviating from it with information that people know. Honda has been doing well this decade too and they have good brand perception, does this mean they have any exciting cars at all? NOPE. Same applies to Subaru at this point. That was my point of the thread.
