today, i test drove a... 2003 Mercedes SLK 32... it's a 349hp supercharged AMG BEAST...
but i was a lil disappointed...
the straight line acceleration is UNREAL...i was chirping tires like crazy, and this was with the traction control on...oh, and it has an automatic transmission...exhaust sounds VERY throaty...quality is pretty good, the automatic folding hard top is prety trick, and i got a couple of stares when operating it...but...
the supercharger kicked in sometimes in mid-corner, which led to some "let-the-***-hang-out-and-countersteer" handling...fun, but not my style of driving...also i was less than impressed with the brakes...not what i expected from an AMG car...(as a reference point, i drove a 2003 AMG C32 a few weeks ago, and the brakes on that thing were awesome...14" crossdrilled rotors)...the brakes felt spongy, and performance, in my opinion was less than stellar...
oh well, i guess i'll just wait for a 04 M3...
here's some pics, i hope it comes out, as it's been a while since i did html stuff...and check out the alpina z8...

hey this is barry. there is one unofficially for sale right now. about 2000 miles only. sitting in my dad's garage at his apt being neglected for a year. he doesn't even drive it. (and will never hand the keys over to me). it is a silver SLK32 AMG. i'm sure you can get a set of brembos or something made to fix the brake issue. b

sorry SteveO, not for sale...may consider a trade though...nah, just joking...
barry, sorry, but after driving it, i'd rather have the new M3...the SLK is a great fun car, but i wanted something i could compete in also...*but* if the price is right...
i got a chance to test drve the new M3 with the SMG trasmission a few weeks ago, and that thing was SCHWEET!!!!! it would automatically blip the throttle on downshifts for you!!! no more need for heel-n-toe while on the track!!! you can alter the shift points for you so it'll shift slow and comfortably, or quick and violent...there's like 11 different settings, 5 in auto mode, and 6 in self shift mode...i also tried it on the fastest setting, and that thing is nuts! 0.08 seconds, and you're in the next gear...there's NO WAY a human can beat that speed of shifting...
if it seems like i'm excited about it, yup i am...too bad there's only one more available M3 allocated for 2003, and that sucker is black...i really dont want a black car, so i'll have to wait to order an 04...

I drove my uncle's 2003 M3 the other week with the 6 speed not the sequential and I love it. I didn't rip it but it feels comfortable even at acceleration. The gearbox is smooth and the clutch feels different. its very hard to explain though. but it was one sweet car. Asked why he didn't get the sequential, my uncle said it would bastardize such a car.
