STi/WRX (GR) Under hood pins?

Alright, I just have to ask this because, I'm at the point of "GRRRRR"

I have a GR type STi, on the under side of the hood, there are some body pins holding up the gray/black board to the hood. Not the ones holding the plastic scoop mount, but the liner itself. These have nothing but a smooth round head the size of a quarter maybe?

Its a shanked pin design I believe that has no real way to remove it other than... breaking it? I put a screwdriver underneath and try to pop it but its not going so well. The heads just snap off.

anyway have a better way? I'll try to snap a pic later if need.
thanks

Work them out slowly with your fingers, In a side to side or circular motion. If you try to pop them off in one go you'll break the heads off of them.

there's actually a panel-popper tool available to remove those (looks like a spade with a v-cut in it) ie weed-popper/puller too

and after you bust em, you can get more at subaru or lowes too (lowes has them in the fastener asile, in the drawers)

thanks guys, i'll try it out again tonight, wondering why subaru makes all the other ones so easy, pushpin types with side slit ejects and so on

Definitely going to a pushpin design if i can find ones that fit.

B- I have the tool if you want to stop by on the way home. We can either pop them off now or I can bring it on Sunday assuming you will be at AutoX. Jon knows where I live. I would let you take the tool home but I'm using it right now, getting ready for Saturday's tune.

Oh nice! that tool must be really popular for alot of you to have it.
No rush on it, just something I've been thinking about doing with the hoodscoop.
Definitely see you on Sunday!

Take long needle nose pliers and grind the end thinner. Every few seconds of grinding dip in oil to keep metal from becoming brittle

Then once you have the pliers under the head of the fastener, use a screwdeiver or something to create a leverage point.

This tool and method will work for a varitety of things. It is more versitile than the mini V-shaped pry bar.
