Shipping exhaust- best way to package
OK.
Unable to generate any sales locally, what would be the best way to wrap up an exhaust for shipping to the lower 48? I was thinking bubble wrap the heck out of it and peanuts. But I'd like to find the perfect box. I wonder if I can fit it in a styrofoam cooler maybe??
Any ideas from those who have either received a 2nd hand (not new from factory) exhaust throough the mail or shipped one out?
10-Q guys.

Is it just the muffler section? Bubble wrap/peanuts should be fine. You
could also buy sheets of styrofoam from home depot and cut them to fit around it perfectly so the tip dosent get bent etc.

Good luck.
I sold my exhaust from the Fozzie recently and it cost me half of the amount that I sold it for.
Total waste of money.
I manufactured two boxes (one for the canister section and one for the mid pipe) out of some boxes from work. I also wrapped the canister and tip in some bubble wrap.
I shipped it via USPS and it was about $200!

I got a secondhand cat back shipped to me back in November.
It came in a giant box...

(the one on the bottom)(I know my room is a mess)
I like to call it my giant box of WIN

There really wasn't anything wrapped around the piping, but the ends were sealed off with bubble wrap.

And there was all kinds of filler in the box ranging from newspaper, to bubble wrap, to bags stuffed with foam hoses.

One of the bags with the foam hoses in it.

kinda random, but it worked.
Coming from an ex-FedEx Employee, any kind of shock absorbent filler will do, I would stay away form peanuts, because they just get everywhere and are a total PITA. If you were to just wrap in up in one or two layers of bubble wrap and fill the rest of the box with crumpled up newspaper you will be more than fine. Also, and I know this is going to sound weird, but be sure to tape all the edges of the openings. it really helps with the rigidity of the box and keeps it from exploding while in transit.
Considering that it is exhaust piping (metal pipe), it is going to be the most durable item in the back of the truck/plane and there really isn't much that is going to hurt it.

When shipping things, I just send things out how I would like to receive things. Nice and perfect to what I feel.
Just send the exhaust Parcel Post. It will take 2-3 weeks but will save you money. Also let the buyer know how you are shipping it so he/she doesnʻt freak out because shipping is taking so long.

In the end, I finally got rid of it, so everyone was happy (well...you know what I mean)
I bubble wrapped the heck out of the dp I sold, then custom made the box. The box looked like a trapezoid when I was done with it. I chose to go the cheapest shipping route and that was $80. I told the buyer though and he didn't mind the long wait.

find one of those bigger cardboard boxes and cut them up (flat). bubble wrap the tips and wrap the canister with newspaper (or similar) and tape it up. roll up the cardboard box around the exhaust and tape it like a mummy (as tight as possible). use a packing tape like Scotch clear tape (#313) and send it via Fedex...
