I can't see the Civic being sold at a Barret-Jackson auction at all.
Collector cars imply a level of obscurity and rarity. The fact that the car is available in mass produced numbers in almost every Honda dealership world wide would be an argument against it being a collector's car.
Now the 22B, I completely agree with that being a collector piece, given the small number of units produced and the small markets in which it was sold.
As for original Mugen rims. I agree that those parts are probably "collector" parts, but I see no similarity between the current Civic in the dealerships and those rims other than they have Mugen badging on them.

My previous posts made it sound like I'm a Honda hater, but I'm actually not. I actually own one (Ridgeline) and I like it a lot. Honda has some great engineers and the Ridgeline is one of the most practical vehicles I own.
I also wouldn't mind an S2000 as a play car.
I also agree that in the higher levels of motorsports (FI, Indy Car), Honda is a long-time presence.
But back to the Civic. If Honda's intent is to test market knowledge in its products in the US, then that's one thing, but to boldly say it's a collector car. I still can't see it. BTW I'm not the one who gave this car the "collector-car" moniker. Even if someone bought the car and never drove it a mile, I doubt the car would actually appreciate in value like a collector car would.
Maybe it's just me, but I just don't see this car in some car collector's garage in the future or in a museum showcasing outstanding automotive achievement. It's just a rebadged Civic.

Have you ever seen what an original set of mugen rims go for? If you can even find a set!! Mugen is more than some aftermarket wannabe, they are true engineers of quality parts exclusive to Honda. I don't want to start an argument, but seriously no other manufacturer is so closely tied to a company more than Honda is to Mugen.I'm not saying I would buy this car,but honestly if someone did keep a first year example of this car in pristine condition,it would be as sought after as a 22B,S02,RB5,or any other limited production car, including your lotus, jaguar,or whatever you consider a collectors car. Just my humble opinion. I just wish we could get the japanese Mugen RR version, now that would have me selling my first born!!! Oh wait nobody wants Brennen,I tried that already!!!
lolI'd rather have something rear drive no matter how collectible this civic is.

I saw that car about a week ago at Pflueger Honda in town.
Sat in it and everything. For a civic, it's nice... but just not $30K+ nice.
That's STi territory right there and that'll beat that civic in everyway... rare or not.

it's a CIVIC...same case as the SRT-4 Neons. It's a Neon. For a civic to be 30K+ uhhhh...it better be able to fly at that price. Didn't seem that impressive to me when i can get big stinkin brembos, BBS rims, adjustable center diff's, a turbo and we wont sound like a fart when we put exhaust on it, for the same price.
