Searched and the answer looks like NOT - unlocking nextel

It looks like the answer is a very clear NO, but I'm hoping that either my search abilities just suck, or that it's a very tightly-held secret...that someone on here has full knowledge of.

Phone is an i830. To be honest, I don't even know what I'm looking to do with the i830. Maybe utilize it with another carrier or use it with a calling card only. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to cellphones.

unless the carrier that you're trying to use is on the same type of network (ie boost mobile) then you'll be **** out of luck my friend. there are ways to unlock your phone but you'll have to frequent the mobile phone forums... or you could try your local cell phone/accessories provider to see if they'll do it. usually you'll have to modify the "codeplug" at a certain value via hexadecimal to unlock the phone. unlocking the phone only allows you to use another carrier (ie boost mobile prepaid or another iden network provider) sim card in your phone. since t-mobile is a completely different network (GMS) you won't be able to use a t-mobile sim card in your nextel phone.

what type of phone do you have?

do you have the data download cable for your i830?

if so then push #*[Menu Button]> one after another. you should be in trace mode. what is the software version under "Unit Info>Software"

i need this alpha numeric number to see if you can unlock that phone.

it's impossible to have t-mobile sim cards used in nextel.... i've tried it after i unlocked my boost i95. i've unlocked the boost roxy i90/boost i95 to use on nextel. i've unlocked my nextel i95/i730 and used in on boost network but cannot be used on t-mobile. i've confirmed this when going through my unlocking of phones phase!

Jon,

Thanks a bunch. The box the phone came in is at work. I've had it for a year but haven't needed the data cable, so I'm assuming it's in there.
