Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Is there a clear cut answer for whether or not BOVs are ok to run?

This is because the majority of the consumer likes the noise regardless of its effect on performance. Of course, it serves a purpose when the stock BOV cannot handle the boost or when its prone to leaking. There are no detrimental effects of running a BOV, as you only run rich between shifts. If you like the sound, run it... if you dont care for the sound, then dont. Some BOV's do cause problems, but some dont. I have an HKS and it works just fine and I've had plenty of fun with it... many people get sick of the noise and sell theirs, but many love it and keep it. It all comes down to personal preference.

Just to let you know, your car has both a MAP and a MAF sensor. And yes all it does is make noise and an easier target for cops to get you. Again, there is nothing wrong with your stock bypass valve.

It's not that a BOV is detrimental to your engine. It's just that it 'could' be detrimental to performance and mileage if anything.

The stock bypass valve can handle upwards of 18psi. I have yet to go over that on my turbo(no I'm not stock), but it's handled it just fine.

More then anything though it's the sound that people are after. Either that TurboXS RFL loud bus sound, or the HKS fast and furious whistle.

When the sound gets annoying, I just turn the adjuster and shut my Stealth FX up.
