Unlocking Cingular phone to work with ATT

I am still on AT&T account and want to use a Cingular phone I scored from a buddy of mine. How can I unlock it? It is asking me for some code when I insert my SIM card? Can someone help me?

howard forums seem to discourage sharing unlock codes these days...

search around on google. i found the unlock codes for my nokia 6200 and my wife's samsung x427 within 10 minutes.

depending on the type of phone it is, not all phones can be unlocked via a code. Nokia phones have programs out there that has the correct algorithym [sp] to create the proper unlock codes to unlock the phones.

Other phones are unlocked via a cable and simply punching in a "code" will not work.
