SCAA Class Clarification

So autox is something I have been looking into and while reading through class rules I came across this:

14.10
C. The air intake system up to, but not including, the engine inlet
may be modified or replaced. The engine inlet is the throttle body,
carburetor, compressor inlet, or intake manifold, whichever
comes first. The existing structure of the car may not be modified for the passage of ducting from the air cleaner to the engine inlet.
Holes may be drilled for mounting. Emissions or engine management
components in the air intake system, such as a PCV
valve, or mass airflow sensor, may not be removed, modified, or
replaced, and must retain their original function along the flow
path.

So what I understand from this is that if I use a Turbo Inlet I will not be able to run in the Street Touring STU Category... Is that correct?

In fact, it seems that I would have to participate in the Prepared Category since I plan on using a Thermal Coated turbo and turbo inlet.. Interesting.

That's kind of splitting hairs there. I doubt anyone would call you on anything unless your mods modify your boost somehow.

Besides doesn't really matter what class you're in if you're a noob. That is unless you have some kind of awesome driving skills that no one knows about.

yes, technically you cannot run in STU, however, i don't think anyone would complain unless you are a lot faster and better than everyone in your class and greatly affect the PAX placing. if you want to discuss further, i usually classify the novices during walkup registration in the morning and ditchhanger is the chief of registration who can probably answer any questions i can't. on autox days, i'm always at the gate in the morning till the start of the 1st heat, and i'll be there all day this sunday.

cool thanks for the info! I probably won't be out there until next year but I plan on trying to make it a regular thing, better than doing stupid crap on public roads =/

We used to do the same back in the day!!!
It was all good until they got us on a road course!!
I wish we had a track now,so I could get 2.5 RS revenge!!!!!
By the way,I see that you are a regular autocrosser/racer in the ongoing project threads. Good job on your car!!!

I hear ya, when my car was down last year, I took a rental automatic '06 Impreza and threw on my stock STi wheels and tires and raced it in STU. Yeah I lost to Stephen's monster RX8, but lost second place by less than 7/100 to an M3 and managed to beat the other M3 by over a second. I also managed to better some STis and WRXs. You don't need much power, yes I do drive an STi, but it only has a cat-back and intake. All my money is in the suspension.
