Safety check locations
Holy crap this is frustrating.
I just shipped my car here from Illinois and so now I am trying to get my car registered and I have to do a safety check first. So I went to Honda on Beretania because that is where I have been taking my wife's civic for one but they rejected me right away because of my tint. It was 20% in the back. I kinda figured that would happen so I got them retinted at Al's Tiniting after that.
Then I went to Subaru in Mapunapuna thinking they would do it there and I wouldn't have any hassle with my SPT catback, spt short throw and STI Pinks. But they rejected me right away because of my red overlays on my tail lights. I really don't want to remove the overlays.
Does any one know where to get a safety check that isn't a dealership and wouldn't give me hassle on my overlays?

if honda only rejected you for the tint...you should go back there ...as all they will do is check what was rejected....save you the cost of another reinspection as well ...
with the blue copy..you have 30 days to comply otherwise you will be charged for another reinspection....

as far as the tail lights, borrow a pair from someone, get ur check, n return?
TBH.... go through the hassle to get RECON. It's worth it. Do RECON once and never worry about a safety again since they will pass you with just about anything.
(except tint... they're annoyingly strict on that)

Anyone have a official site to go to, to see what they look for in order to pass recon?

It's not hard to get an appointment, all you have to do is call and ask when they have openings. From what I hear though, they're booked for the next couple of months.
Just switch out your tail lights for stock ones, get your safety, then put your tail lights back on after. If they failed you because of the overlays, getting recon will not help with that.

really its all booked til end of Feb. How am I supposed to get my car registered within the 30 day grace period from when i shipped it in early Dec.
Also to clear it up the two places i went to Honda and Subaru dealership, when I brought my car in they denied me without even starting the safety check. Honda took out their tint meter thing and when they saw the rear was not legal they didn't go any further with the safety check. And when i went into Subaru as soon as the mechanic saw the overlays they didn't continue. So none of them even started with the safety check and I didn't pay anything.
I was thinking Subaru might be the best one for me because of the STI pinks and they should know those are genuine subaru parts even though it lowers it by 10mm. I am probably going to just remove my overlays and go back to them so I don't have to go through the hassle of this year after year.
One more thing you think I will fail the safety check for my Perrin Intake?

You won't fail the safety check for engine mods.. Some places might give you a hassle about the pinks though because they aren't black or grey..
I went to Hiram's Chevron today in Honolulu and the guy is awesome.. You should try to go to him and see what he says.. But always remember that now if you fail at a safety inspection station they will take pictures of what they failed you for and the next station will be able to
Look at what you failed for.. So try to bring some kind of proof of how that is genuine Subaru suspension.. But the guy really only checked my lights and that was it haha
