I set the dampers on my evo x to softest setting (HKS hipermaxIII) and still failed... Took my BMW in on h&r coilovers and passed... I think they are discriminating! Lol

So recon laws are applicable to Oahu only, but all islands still require a safety inspection in order to register. Is that true?

General Registration

3. Find an authorized inspection center (usually a gas station, call your motor vehicle office) and have your car inspected. This only takes a few minutes. You will have to show them your original insurance card. The inspection center will issue a Hawaii Inspection Certificate for around $15 that you must take with you to register your car. There's an extra $5 fee for post-factory tinted windows.

W/ my current setup, my car would definitely not pass on Oahu. I plan on moving to Hilo within the next year or so. Do I need to worry about the safety inspection? When I was out there, I saw a lot of lowered Honda's and it seemed like everyone drove a lifted truck.

Did you have a question? It seemed more like a statement of mods you have and that you'll be going to try and get a safety....
But the only thing I'd do to pass safety is raise the heck out of the car. nothing else looks like a deal breaker.

What he said. If you are going to try and pass the safety without getting recon, you should try before the end of this month.

I just tried to get the safety and failed on my suspension. So I guess my question is, is there any shops that will get my alignment specs printed out to tell my how far away from oem I am WITHOUT adjusting any of my specifications I have professionaly made already?

If they will adjust it, I will not take it there. just saying.

yeah hawaii has some retarded laws. my miata is tow only, not going to bother getting another safety check since it'll never ever pass...
im even having problems with my almost stock m3 - need to install a stock steering wheel. i hate this states car hating bureaucracy.

it makes no sense to me how the state is ok with nothing but toy trucks on a 50ft lift and honda's scraping the ground being held together by duct tape, but god forbid you have a subaru thats made for these kinds of freeways and roads be a little out of oem specs. Why even have the safety at all? It doesn't fund all the potholes, it doesn't change how much registration costs or taxes, plus people steal that **** anyway. Either get rid of it all together or have them on the inside of the windshields like some other states do. Hawaii is the most uneducated state Ive known about mechanical modifications and how a vehicle even starts.

Even rednecks have a better educated grasp of modifications then this place
