Any updates on fighting the good fight?
When I was on Kauai a few weeks ago it seemed like every other vehicle on the road was what I call a tonka truck (huge lifted truck) with a modified exhaust. I couldn't believe how many there were, and I can't believe that they all get away with being completely illegal.
I'd be amazed if the laws were ever made to be more specific. Vague laws allow cops to write tickets based on feelings, more tickets means more revenue for the town/state.
I'm currently working on a Subaru / aftermarket parts oriented business in which I would definitely need at least a slightly modified (catback, suspension, aggressive wheels, and stickers on the back windows) STI for marketing purposes. If my move to either Oahu or Maui (depending on job situation) goes through this summer, I guess I'd have to return the car to stock when I get there? Since I'd be a n00b in town I wouldn't have any hookups, which I'm assuming is how all of the bajillions of modified cars get by, including the dozen or so modified subies I saw. I really would not want to have to lug all my stock parts out with me.

Might be the gayest laws ever. Hawaii is the only state to make u register ur car with out of state tags. Everyone else just lets u alone with out of state tags

I have own modded cars since i got on island 8 years ago, and I have never had any problems, they dont check for emmisions and they aint gonna go down and inspect your engine bay (thats my experienced so far). you shouldnt have any problems passin safety inspection if "thats your only Mod in the car".
