Q about registering a car

Hey Guys,

I have just one question... For those who registered a car but the original owner didn't have the title papers, how long of a procedure was it for signing all the neccessary documents. I know its like 10 bucks to get a duplicate copy requested by the original owner but the paper work is what Im wondering about.

Thanks,
walter

It's basically going down to the dmv and requesting a duplicate if the original is lost. I think you bring your registration down, and as long as there's no leinholder on the title, you're good to go. If there is a bank as lein, then you'd need a lein release letter from that bank in your name. Then do the transfer right there. I've done the transfer at a bank with the original owner, and that was quick, so i'm assuming however long it takes for you to get to the front of the line.

Hey Chris, thanks for your feedback. Yeah the original owner lost the title so I emailed him to request for a duplicate. So the process is fast then! Nice...

thanks again,

and it also depends how long the line is also........i would stay away from the wahiawa, pearl ridge, and kalihi branches. so far i think the kapolei branch is the fastest i have gone to.
