Pulled over on the way to work

Yesterday I was pulled over on my way to work--my first time--while I passed Kaiser in Moanalua. It was interesting because I wasn't speeding, nor was I in the carpool lane (at least this time), and I was actually driving pretty slow.
After managing to get all the way over, the officer looked my car up and down and questioned me about my wing, paint, intercooler and rims--to which I could honestly reply were all stock, unless you count the red stickers as violations. I think he thought I was running on 18s, and he actually bent over to look at the tire rating.

I was very level headed about it and let him take his time. I thought he was going to cite for me for an expired safety, especially after all the questions about the stock stuff on the car, but I got a warning. (I've been too lazy to get that fixed)
And while I could be upset that I was pulled over during rush hour traffic, and that I was pretty much late for a department meeting with some pretty important people, I'm thankful that the officer actually looked over the evidence and thought about it before giving me the warning and decided against the usual meaningless tickets that have no impact on driver safety.

I guess it's strange because the real lesson is that they're going after cosmetic mods rather than performance mods, now that I think about it. Also I think one thing that helped me, and that's the equal length header, which at idle is quieter than stock in my opinion. I think he stared at the 3 inch pipe for awhile and couldn't figure out why it was quiet. (my car is far from stock, from the turbo down to the headgasket)

from my understanding..(im doing some tile work for someone who owns a shop that does safety checks and got the info from him last night..) you dont need recon for rims anymore and can run any size rims you want as long as the tire is inside the fender and doesnt stick out at all... you can run any exhaust you want and pass safety check since we dont have emissions laws in hawaii...and you dont need recon and can pass safety check with any cosmetic mod as long as it doesnt interfere with the vehicles safety ie.. removed bumper beam and foam.. wing is in drivers veiw of traffic and what not... glad you didnt get a ticket and that the cop was smart enough to not waste his or your time by having you have to show up to court to battle a useless ticket... i mean i hate it when that happens!! lol

So it was you. I was going to make a thread yesterday asking who got pulled over. I for the life of me, couldnt understand why you got pulled over, I mean we were bumper to bumper traffic, it wasnt like you could come on boost.

Nice rims though. The red stripe looks sick against the gloss black.

Yeah it sort of upset me that I got pulled over in rush hour. I think half the reason rush hour was so bad was because they were pulling people over.
I think they were enforcing the carpool lane, but I'm not sure. But there were like 2-3 of them in that area.

Routine start of the month traffic stops, They pulled you over for your expired safety and assumed rather than being "too lazy to take it in" (as you said so I do not get yelled at) they assumed you had failed and were probably trying to figure out why you had failed.
I have only been pulled over once and it was the exact same situation, start of the month Pali police and an expired safety sticker on my part and I received a warning. They either set up roadblocks (like they do at whiteplains beach) or wait until rush hour traffic when everyone is driving slow anyways.

The state needs money and tickets are some of the easiest money to be made. If you give them a reason however petty it is (expired safety) they are going to take the bait.
Just make sure you get your car checked and hopefully you will not have any more issues with the police.

lol, yeah its that time of the month.

I hope people realize that they need to start being more careful, tickets are an easy way for the city and county to make the money that they are in badly need of.

yeh you got pulled over for the expired saftey check, that gives them more then enough reason to pull you over. I got pulled over for that reason b4. at least you didn't get a ticket (me too since i was in someone else's non modded car)

Idk how you guys can run around with expired safety anyway. Takes all of what 20 minutes to get it done? Is it seriously that time consuming.

lol, I think the problem is people mod then can't get an inspection until they get recon.....then the month that is usually takes to get a recon appointment, especially if you fail and have to wait another month.

A good number of people I know have to go in a few times to get past the bounce test, meaning their inspection becomes more and more out of date.

But yeah, it was nice that you only got a warning and your car didn't go through the full inspection. Hopefully you do not need recon so your inspection can be fixed soon.

I don't really have a point for my post, so please don't intimate that I'm complaining about the situation; I thought not having a point would make it fit in with other posts (jk haha).

I was more or less shocked of pullovers during rush hour traffic. I've never really noticed it or seen it before, and I've been driving into town for work for over 13 years. I usually only notice stalls on the side of the road or the occasional speed trap in some unrealistic situation, but I've never seen them waiting on the side of the road when the cars aren't really moving.
I guess in the back of my mind I felt that going to work was safe but driving around Waikiki or driving home after a night out was what I should be concerned about. Obviously I was wrong.

Oh I think most people posted in response to those who seemed confused as to why you were pulled over and posted recon information since you stated your safety was expired.
Good luck getting your safety and Hopefully you can avoid them until you do get it.

I know. You're post regarding the monthly pullovers was disturbing yet informative. I always wondered why there were slowdowns with no accidents.

I wasn't trying to bash anyone. Just wondering how come people drive around with expired safety.
