PS3 - is this a good deal?

https://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...*************/

I know there was a price drop and some kind of slim PS3 but is this a good deal given all of that?

The new slim 120 Gig PS3 is priced @ $299.
PlayStation®3 120GB System

That's a good deal

Yes, other than being cheaper, it is smaller and has more memory. The price drop alone is the big sell. You can't mount it vertically like the old one though.

Well... if you like... you could buy this one and swap out the hard drive to a 500GB one.
I swapped mine out 2 years ago from the 60GB to a 250GB... A 500GB would be soooo nice.
Not sure about how easy it is to do on a Slim PS3, but on the regular PS3, it's super simple.

it's even more simpler on the slim, but the HDD comes out of the front now instead of the bottom. I still have to upgrade mine. I WISH i had the 60gb model, I have the first gen 80gb with ps1 compatability.

OK school me on this...if you upgrade to a 500gb HD...what are the good things this does for you?

I have been out of the console thing for a few years (last console game I bought was FF12)

Downloadable content, music, games, demo's, etc.

Not worth having ridiculous amounts of storage. 80GB is fine imo.

It isn't. I have like 25 games from the playstation store, and those game installs take lots of space (gt5 prologue alone was 5.5gb o_o). I have like 3 movies on it (700mb each) and I only have about 10gigs left. A few more games and I'll need to upgrade :l. Don't even get me started on my 20gb xbox 360

At least I have the early 80gig model(Motorstorm Bundle) that plays ps2 games. I'm pretty sure the one he linked to in the first post only plays ps1/ps3 games.

I don't get why certain PS3s can play PS2 and certain ones can't. Aren't we at the point technologically where they could just make it happen?

So say with the HD...can you buy a game and then download it to the HD and play it off the HD? Does this make it load faster?

The real answer is cost saving. Sony just started to make a profit on PS3's because they kept integrating components to make it cheaper to manufacture. Unfortunately, you can't keep reverse compatibility if you remove the chips to do so to make the unit more profitable.
