I need to buy a lap top ASAP for someone, I wont go into details, long story...

I am looking for the best deal I can possibly get my grubby hands on. This machine will mainly be used for web surfing, videos, basic apps like MS word.

I'd like to avoid brands such as HP, and such that are known to suck.

I'm looking to spend $500 or less on this... Size does NOT matter but I would like a good processor, memory, and hard drive, and like I said, screen size is not important.

Can anyone refer me to anything in that realm? I really can't spend over $500, its out of the question, but I know there are epic deals sometimes and I know some of you are computer gurus that know their ish.


So in short, I need a laptop that...
1. Has good processor
2. Good memory
3. Good large harddrive
4. Brand doesn't matter too much, just no HPs
5. Size of screen doesn't matter too much at all
6. Will be used mainly for web stuff, anything from message boards to videos
7. Weight isn't an issue really
8. Needs to be able to run apps such as photoshop, ms word, and other basic programs, no games
9. Doesn't matter what OS it comes with, would prefer XP, but I can wipe it clean when I get it and install XP.
10. Needs to have a DVD/CD-R drive, HAS TO.

Can we do this for less then $500? Please help a brotha' out in finding one... I have a deadline that I need to hit, so time is of essence.

PS: Has to be a PC, no macs... Ideally I'd LOVE a tablet PC, but they are waaaaay out of my price range, so I'll settle for a basic lap top.

PPS: This is VERY important to me and I need to get it soon, as soon as possible... A lot depends on this lap top, it will travel the world and be all over europe for extended periods of time.

 

why not hit up best buys, circuit city, and what not. there is alot of good laptops for sale right now. also newegg.com has a decent amount of laptops for sale.

1gb of ram on vista = fail

"Acer Aspire AS6530-5195" listed above is a good laptop, 16inches wide and 7 lbs might be to wide and too heavy for some though.

 

Daniel hit me up (if it fits the bill) I have my wife's Dell Inspiron e1505 just collecting dust. Bought it 07/2006 and is barely used, as I bought her a Mac. Looking to get $300.

I'd have to clean all her files off of it, before selling it . . . Oh, and if it works out I guess I should tell her
