Oh and you also cann't say weight reduction, because that's free and we are going to take as much out of his car as we can before the next time he runs.

I think the TODA and the Exedy flywheels look pretty good.
How hard is the install? Looks like I could do it myself with my ramps and floorjack.
Drive onto ramps, put jack on the motor with a piece of 2x4, take out motormounts (I'd probably have to take off the subframe), take off tranny mounts, drop tranny, install flywheel.
Would I need to drain tranny fluid? Would this be a good time to install new engine and tranny mounts? What's everyone's thought if, my clutch still looks good, to leave it on?
I absolutely can't do this right now, but am interested.

if you mean "do it by yourself", ... that would be a big No.
It's not too bad of a job, power tools are a must if you want to keep your temper down.
You would prbably need to change your clutch by the time you get around to this, at least get a new (or like new) disk, and resurface your pressure plate. Like I said before though, if you're going to be drag racing, you're Going to need a 'stronger than stock' clutch with a lightened flywheel.
So do them at the same time.
yeah, you'll be draining your fluid
and it would be an ok time to do the mounts as well. You'd just want to make sure you have a full day to do this in.

Call me for help, when you need it. IIRC, you'll need to remove the subframe to take off the front sway bar (to get at the motor mount).
I figure: For $100, as long as your loosening up all that crap anyway, get the mounts, too.

I really want to do this, and relatively soon, but I don't want to give the wrong idea. It probably wouldn't be until I return from West Point, NY in AUG.
It would be much easier w/ a lift
I was lucky enough to have access to a lift at the time. So I had some help. Everything bolted up pretty easlily, but it took the whole day. In addition, make sure you are really carful when putting back in the rear drive shaft. I had to order a trans rear seal because mine blew out after my install. No one on the island stocks this so I suggest getting an extra from Irvine Subaru. In addition, if you have the extra cash, I strongly suggest a new throw out bearing. The clutch I currently have utilizes the stock one. However, I believe ACT includes a throw out bearing of their own.

I just installed a new clutch/flywheel on my own. I had access to a lift which made things much easier, but it still took me an entire day. The method I used was to drain and remove the radiator, unbolt the engine from the tranny and the motor mounts from the crossmember. Then you can place a jack under the oil pan and move the engine up/forward enough to have access to the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate. Still a pain in the ***, but well worth it, she revs like a champ now. Still breaking in the clutch so the report on how well it holds will have to wait.

Wow... I never thought of moving the motor up and forward instead of bringing the trans. back and down... Interesting!

Well Worth It
Yep, I have to agree w/ Chad! The flywheel and clutch is well worth it. Especially for SCCA. My car revs much better and my clutch holds well, even w/ redline launches. Hehehehe.
