my vote is for a privately owned pineapple field, if there is such a thing anymore. and if there is we can pay the guy to rent out his land

Equality my f'ing ***. Where were Matson and Young Brothers and their EIS? That's right.
I've been living in Hong Kong the past month and looking at how their city is run, Honolulu would be considered a third world country. With about the size of Oahu, I could go ANYWHERE within a few minute's worth of walking.
In these tough economic times, you'd expect the closing of the superferry to be the last thing that would happen. Hawaiian Air now has no real competition in the business now that Aloha is gone. Lot's of lost business in Maui, 300 lost workers from SF, Maui farmers can't load up goods in the SF and sell them on Oahu, LEGAL racers taking their cars, the Maui track's business. It only really will benefit Matson, Young Brothers and Hawaiian Air now, and it's not like they are in financial trouble anyway.
People of Oahu and Maui need to get off their okole and protest and protest heavy. If I was in Hawaii, I would.

what do you all think of the job environment right now? is it really that hard to look for a job out there nowadays? i mean what are the chances.....of all this people getting laid off from their jobs in finding new ones.....? but i guess it all depends on what you're looking for or trying to go for out there too..... so just keep trying....

I highly doubt that the superferry will be going out of business or shuting down. Hat happened was, back when the superferry was first started, Lingle passed legislation that would let it run WHILE an environmental impact assesment was done. Legally you are not allowed to operate until the assesment was complete, and the reason that the Hawaii supreme court halted the superferrys operation is because of a constitutional infringemet of equality. What it boils down to was that probably Matson got pissed and found some technicality that they could halt the superferrys operations for, they found it, but the new environmental assesment is already under way, I doubt the superferry will be out of commission for very long. This whole deal will hurt Lingle more than the superferry because she pushed for the illegal legislation.
To the Seirra Clubs defense it wasnt just them who was complaining. When the SF first started operations Maui residents did not want the SF. There were all sorts of protests to include but not limited to residents, seirra club and environmentalists.
Lingle shouldnt have let them operate in the first place. The reason Matson & YB can operate and the SF is having trouble is due to shipping lanes and speed. The shipping vessels cruse at a much slower speed so it allows whales and other species of animals to get out of the way or are able to manuiver around them. These so called "hippies" are not being unreasonable. What makes this place so amazing is its natural beauty. They are just trying to protect Hawaii ohana, big and small. I think its wrong of people to attack environmentalists when you owe these islands beauty to them. If it wernt for them we would have hundreds of invasive species of plants and animals. Look at what happened to the big island when people werent careful with animals. They have the kokui frog and massive amounts on mongoose. So before you attack them, use some aloha yourself.
this whole debate is a sore subject for both parties involved. i hope this can be resolved quickly and with a solution that can help both parites but before you are so quick to judge, look at both sides.

ok **** the whales and the hippes will the whales put food on the table of these 236ppls? how many whales have been harmed in this time the SF have been in route? also it was the seirra club who was behind the protest in maui and are the one who field the complaint. on top of this im sure YB and matson and hawaiian air cargo aren't to happy that the SF if operating since it took business from them. so imho whales are not as important as ppls loosing jobs and having to live on the beach b/c these hippes are well off and can afford to stir the pot!

Wow...this is what happens when you take away Shaggy's chance at drag racing. He gets all grumpy. I'll miss you guys, but if the ferry ever gets back in the water, let me know, I'll act as tour guide again.

I agree that there is alot to consider. I feel bad for the 236 people who might/ will loose their jobs. Im not saying it isnt sad and disheartening but you cant go attacking people just becuase they have different beliefs then you and at least someone is standing up for the marine life, they cant stand up for themselves. If the economy was better, you probably wouldnt be so concerned about the people loosing their jobs, there for you wouldnt be quite as outraged. Does that mean there has to be economic prosperity for people to care about wildlife?
