It sucks that some stupid asses managed to stop the superferry this way, based on a technicality. Leila and I just came back from a week long vacation on maui using the superferry to transport our car, it was a great experience ( well aside from the whole 10-15 foot waves part ) I really don't think it has much to do with the enviroment as it has to do with local interests like shipping companies who have some of their profits taken, and hippies who moved in, but don't want others to move in and "ruin" what they have. (even though they basically did the same ).
you so read my mind!!!! ROFLMFAO

I highly doubt that the superferry will be going out of business or shuting down. Hat happened was, back when the superferry was first started, Lingle passed legislation that would let it run WHILE an environmental impact assesment was done. Legally you are not allowed to operate until the assesment was complete, and the reason that the Hawaii supreme court halted the superferrys operation is because of a constitutional infringemet of equality. What it boils down to was that probably Matson got pissed and found some technicality that they could halt the superferrys operations for, they found it, but the new environmental assesment is already under way, I doubt the superferry will be out of commission for very long. This whole deal will hurt Lingle more than the superferry because she pushed for the illegal legislation.

Normally, I don't agree with Shaggy's palin humping way but here I support him and everyone else FOR the superferry.

I remember back when I was in politics that the Sierra Club was the most pain in the *** special interest group on the island. There's a line you need to draw between being "green" and being "behind the times". I agree that the SF and all marine traffic needs to be monitored but not at the extent that they not be allowed to do business. It's not like the SF is dumping nuclear waste off the deck or anything.

The SF is basically the link that the islands have needed all along to go from having an "Oahu-Centric" economy to a full state economy that utilizes all of our resources (both people and natural).

Well this blows. Now I'm less upset about leaving island in a few months :/ . Hope the residents, and those stationed some odd years, get a chance to take advantage of the track at Maui.
