Motorcycles on Oahu?

Who here rides? Curious if its even worth getting a bike once I get there. I sold my 954 and my ZZR1200 before moving to Vegas a couple months ago and just not sure its worth spending that kind of money again for a bike on an island.

I used to ride. I sold my bike before I came to the island and I regret it everyday. My friend has a bike that he lets me borrow every now and then because I helped him fix it when it was broke.

If I don't get the STi I'm buying a bike.

Are there enough roads there on Oahu to justify a bike? Is there a helmet law? I might buy one to tide me over til the STi gets in.

i ride

I ride almost everyday to work (15 miles). Hawaii has the year-round sunny wether for bikers. Perfect for town commute and parking is always easy. Got to have one!

No helmet law for motorcycles. Bicyclists must wear head protection though.

Oh yes. Get a bike that is designed for turns as we dont have that long of a freeway system here, unfortunatley. An no helmet law. But I used to love showing off my 600 dollar helmet to guys who only spent 100 bucks on theirs.

I stupidly sold my custom Shoei helmet that I had painted in Boise. Not sure why. Figured I wouldnt get a bike in Hawaii, but I just might now. Probably pick up another 954, loved that bike.

v twins' lower rpm torque is quite usefull in zippin' in and out of
of the cagers lane. My S-vee seems to better than my gixer for that matter. Dukes are awesome but my co-worker had had problem finding a good mechanic for it. Maybe its just him.
Are you in the military? I asked because you're required to take the
Motorcycle safety class in order to ride in the base.

No military for me. Do you have to take the safety course to rid elsewhere? I never got around to getting my endorsement in Boise. Just got the permit and never made the time to get one. Got pulled over twice, but no tickets and they just said to get the endorsement. I assume you HAVE to have the endorsement there tho.

usually you'll pay the fee out of your pocket, when you finished and passed the class the dealer where you bought your bike from will reinburse you ($170). But you dont have to take it though- although its cool to have 10-25% off on your insurance.

So you DONT have to have any motorcycle endorsement or I guess you are talking about the safety course. WIll check the web for the endorsement requirements...

I would love to own a Ducati but I can't fit on one. I rode a TL-1000 ( I know, not the same...) though, and I have to say that I prefer the torque of a twin versus the four.

Have to see if I can talk the wife into going. She wants to go swimming of course. We have been away from nice weather and the ocean for way too long. Do they have auto-x every sunday?
