I'm sure I can speak for the "old-timers" when I say:

1) Why are you intimidated by us? We're there to help you out and make your experience better

2) You only make an *** out of yourself when you make comments like "I'm just afraid of making an *** out of my self for being a n00b"...we were all n00bs once and hell...we still make n00b mistakes...no need to be afraid. In a way, it's a lame excuse

Yes, and I also know the problem, the dreaded STI Strut clunk. I've been applying a temporary solution to that (re-greasing the struts). But the clunk is only one of many annoyances I've grown to develop.

I do it as a hobby because I like to take things apart and make it better. A true tinkerer at heart. Whether it be transforming your Ranger into a Baja truck or your Subie into a track car, its gotta be done.

Do you love to drive fast? Yes is my answer and yes it is dangerous to other drivers and myself, but I will mod my car till I am broke every paycheck because I want more control at faster speeds. I'll sacrifice NVH for performance any day. Faster and safer = more fun.

Another thing is a bought my subie and was like holy F%^& this thing is too fast. A couple weeks later I was like, dam this thing is slow, that R32 just raped me. That next second I am on the net trying to find parts because who wants to lose?!

Lastly, I grew up around friends who would push there car to the limit every time we take the thing for a spin with or without a license. Whether it be a Toyota pickup, Bronco, Datsun, BMW, or my parent's prius (got it to 104mph downhill). So, for me to not do anything to a car and then drive it like a bat out of hell would = injury.

There are so many ways to mod... Interior, exterior, suspension... how could you be done with it?

No carbon?
You got Navi, DVD player, PS3, TV?
Gucci Headliner?
Race Seats, Harness?

If your done with performance, there is a whole other world of mods out there.

 

i mod my car cause i am truly a grease monkey.

I like to work on cars i dont like having others install parts for me or anything..

I like it when i can put something on my car and say to myself, "Yeah, i did that!"
I love the feeling that my WRX had before i spun a bearing. hit that gas and instant boost and power. i didn't like the lag the car had when i got it. i live in the hills i love to have power when i need it for cornering, or safely maneuvering myself way from danger.

My friend and i were in my car one morning coming down from the snow. about 10 mins from my house. i came around a corner and found my rear end sliding out a lil bit. While doing this i noticed a car heading up the hill around the same corner so i downshifted punched the gas and held the drift through the corner just like i would in a rally. thats why i enjoy rallying. it gets you accustomed to drifting and when in a bad situation like i was in it felt so normal for me to do it that i never even thought twice about what i was doing. But if my car didn't have instant power i know i would have probably hit the oncoming car....

so modding for me is a joy to put the parts on and is a security factor in my mind.

i mod not to have the fastest car on the road, but to handle, have very quick spool and loads of torque on demand. it keeps me from injury

 

modding for me = prodrive whoring. thats all.

 

it all started with breaking down a lawnmower motor and putting it back together to make it run, when i was younger. then somewhere down the years, watching JDM videos, I saw and heard the rawness of the impreza.

i do it cause my dad did it. not only is he just a good mechanic, he loves boxer motors too, old bugs to be exact. he also used to build them to smash V8s.

i don't know about you but i'm doing the same thing he was doing at my age. it's in the blood.

LOL. Most of my family thinks I broke something and thats why I am always working on it. I must me crashing my car every weekend then.

 

I modify my cars because I don't like the idea of having a savings account or money to spare...

I really modify my cars because there are few cars I've driven that handle the way I like them to when stock. I love to auto-x, and when we still had a track, I used to love track days too. I also like having the improvements done to my cars show when I auto-x them, it makes for a good measurement of both driver and vehicle improvements.

You shouldn't worry about coming to to race with us, no one really cares much about noobs, if you're not making an *** out of yourself by talking big s#$% or causing trouble, you'll basically blend in with the 100 or so other racers.
