Knocking noise

I have a 04 STI. Motor started knocking a while ago. Was just wondering if anyone knows any shop that could diagnose and fix my car. If anyone can refer me to someone that would b great. I think i probably need to rebuild or drop new motor. Thanks.

When it's cold everything is normal when it warms up that's when the knock comes out. It get louder n faster as the revs go up.

Just saying that its knocking is very vague and can cover a blanket list of possible problems.
Record a video with good sound and post it up. Any other symptoms like loss in power, metal shavings in oil, increase in vibration can be helpful in diagnosing.

I'll post a video I lose about a qt of oil a week. Didn't check or pull anything apart yet. Trying to find someone or a shop that can do it. Just don't know who to take the car too.

It could be Mr Opportunity.

Sorry I didn't see that you said there was white smoke.

That changes a lot.
Take it in and ask for a leakdown test.

Yeah white smoke and sound is not good, but each by itself is not necessarily bad.

I was thinking at first it could be the tensioner pulley bearing. Mine went, and I totally freaked out and thought it was a spun bearing.

But the combination of smoke and knocking sound doesn't sound good.

It could still be a bad turbo. I've seen one with so much shaft play that it made a noise, but I doubt it.

OP means original poster.....you. haha

I'm serious about giving you a wrx for the sti,

I have 3 right now, 2 pretty heavily modified with sti short block and bigger turbos.

one even has forged pistons, nitrided crankshaft, ACL race bearings, ARP head studs. 280hp 311tq at the wheels.

interested?
