RAGE, ..... I'm in the same boat as you. I want to move but not sure if I can get an offer equivalent to the cost of living there. I currently make around $44k a year, and that's not bad considering the small town I live in. I just don't know if anybody can offer me enough to live out there.
Same as you, ex's bills are bad!
Anyhow, good luck with your decision. May I make a suggestion? I frequent the hawaii.com forums and go into the "Moving to Hawaii" section. You'll find great info there on people like us who want to take the plunge.

A little late but feel free to pm me with any questions you may have. I'm not sure what your bills are like, but you definitely don't need to be making 80K to live here. 50-60K would be about right and even less if your gf came down and shared expenses with you.
For the record, threre are non manager/director positions in the 80K range.

Well, I accepted the position... now the only thing that I am really worried about is what to do with my car? Do I want to keep the $350 a month payment or sell the car and make some money on it. I would love to have it over there, but I am not sure that it is worth it. I really think that I should sell, but it is tough to do. I love my subie!!!! But I could alway s buy another one in a year or 2...
What is the used car market like over there? Think I could find something decent for a few thousand?
Oh, and by the way... I will be on Oahu for a month then move to Kauai for a year. Then I will be back to Oahu. All this moving from island to island is what makes me think selling the car and not worrying about it is the right thing to do.

Just replied to your pm. I would definitely keep the Subie. For as long as your gf helps with the bills you should be fine. The local used car market isn't the best, not to mention over-priced. It shouldn't cost too much to ship your car inter-island.
Congrats!
