Car Info: STi (cornering, accelerating and braking hard).
Aside from the style changes, it appears that the Evo made larger leaps from a technology standpoint where as the STi just made styling changes.
It's clear that the better driving car on the track is the Evo.

Too bad there no tracks in Hawaii. Which means the STi is a more practical car in terms of the road conditions here especially.
Well, whatever the bugs the USDM engine has, I'm sure the AP will fix it.
But all these negative reviews of the USDM one is discouraging. You feel robbed to think that "maybe" we getting a car that is equal to the JDM counterpart finally...

I haven't driven either car, but it "appears" from the articles and the videos that the STi has the nod on power, but that the Evo is capable of putting the power down into the corners and on corner exit.

The STI is a *great* enthusiast's road car. I love it. It's sharp looking, comfortable, livable, powerful, involving, fun, confidence-inspiring. My wife DIGS the new STI.
The previous Evo's I've driven have felt much more like 'track weapons' than a daily driver. More like scalpels with a heavy focus on trackability and much less in creature comforts. It certainly seems to have been the weekend warrior's choice if ultra precise handling and track times were the deciding factor.
It will be interesting to see how much the Evo X tones that down to appeal to a broader audience.
Then again I'm in the age bracket now that feel aches and pains in my back from driving my Audi S4 too long in Friday afternoon traffic on the H1.

I agree with Rich, I think the STi wanted to appeal to a larger audience and at the same time try not to disappoint its core demographic. From the articles that I have read on the new STi, Subaru has taken off some of the edginess of the car while still providing the performance associated with the STi badge. There were no excuses with the previous iterations, they were performance cars with air-conditioning. They rode hard, had little sound insulation and was brutally fast. The STi has grown up and has more manners now. If I could, that would be the car I would be driving now as a day to day driver. Of course if I could, I would still keep my 04 as my sporting/track car...I love it THAT much. Its funny though, despite always being known as the handler of the two, most EVOs in Hawaii found themselves at the dragstrips when the track was open, and the WRX and STi more often found themselves at trackdays and autocross despite being the better of the two in a straight line. Regardless, if you should own any or both the EVO or STi, you owe it to yourself to really drive your car at or close to its limits, safely that is at say autocross? So come out and join us at SCCA autocross, you'll love it!!

While the event and festivities will end around 4PM, I would bet that there will still be an STI available to look at after that time...
